Summary:

The primary role of the phlebotomist is to aid in performing various assigned tasks, problem-solving, providing training, and suggesting workflow improvements.

Position Responsibilities:

Experience in conducting blood draws, identifying specimens, spinning samples, recording maintenance details, and sterilization, updating patient records, etc. Gather and store samples following established protocols. Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection process to patients. Demonstrate the use of straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully comprehend all physician instructions. Match lab requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, spin, split, and freeze samples based on test orders. Verify all test requisitions against script for accuracy. Prepare samples for transport. Store specimens at correct temperature, place in appropriate container, label accurately, follow protocol for transport, and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual departmental trainings and answer calls regarding lab results.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment where required. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of 1 year experience.
