The Grandview City Hall/PD/Court parking lot will be closed beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9th. Visitors can park at 1416 Main Street lot or find on-street parking. Handicap spots are marked at the Main Street entrance. With this being my first official full time job with benefits, it has really turned around my outlook on personal growth and my life has changed so much. I am a real adult with more personal and professional responsibilities than ever before. It’s an adjustment with pros and cons, but a massive improvement overall! What satisfies me the most in my position here at the city is being able to help both English and Spanish speaking customers. Working for the city has helped me grow by giving me the confidence to get out of my comfort zone and trying new things after being a stay-at-home mom for 15 years. A team first mentality, I'd say that fits. They really do try and include every department in on, [sic] on-going activities with the city. There are other larger cities near us that may pay more but it is more difficult to implement change and to have as much of an impact as we are able to here. The City of Grandview is looking for a friendly, professional, and service-minded Communications Specialist to join our Administration team. This is a unique position that combines front-line customer service with communications, marketing, social media, and community engagement . As one of the first points of contact for visitors to City Hall, you’ll play an important role in creating a welcoming experience for residents, customers, and guests. We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping people, can confidently answer questions and find solutions, and remains professional and composed—even when things get busy. In addition to providing excellent customer service, you’ll help tell Grandview’s story by creating digital content, supporting City events, updating websites and social media, and assisting with communications campaigns. What You’ll Do Customer Service & Front Desk Serve as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for City Hall visitors. Provide friendly, responsive, and solution-focused customer service to residents, guests, and employees. Answer questions and provide information to City Hall and Department of Motor Vehicle guests. Answer, screen, and route incoming telephone calls and connect customers with the appropriate City department or resource. Handle public walk-ins and telephone inquiries in a calm, confident, and professional manner. Build positive working relationships with City employees, officials, residents, and members of the public. Sort and distribute incoming mail and process outgoing mail. Communications & Community Engagement Assist with reports, newsletters, presentations, communications campaigns, and other projects. Help maintain and update content on City websites. Create and assist with social media content for City channels. Write articles, news releases, promotional materials, brochures, flyers, and other communications. Gather information from City departments and provide communications and event support. Take photographs and video footage at City events and activities. Assist with the creation of videos and other multimedia content. Monitor social media and mobile application analytics and assist with reporting. Support live broadcasts of public Board of Aldermen meetings. Assist with special events, meetings, and community activities. The formal position specifically requires employees to work effectively with people and handle public walk-ins and phone calls in a calm, self-assured, and confident manner. What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who: Enjoys working directly with the public and providing excellent customer service. Has a positive, welcoming, and professional demeanor. Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Is comfortable helping customers determine where to go or who to contact—even when they may not initially know exactly what they need. Can remain calm and courteous when assisting frustrated or upset customers. Is organized and comfortable balancing front-desk responsibilities with communications projects and deadlines. Works well with employees at all levels of an organization. Has strong writing, editing, grammar, and proofreading skills. Is creative and interested in social media, marketing, photography, video, or graphic design. Can gather information, ask the right questions, and turn that information into clear communications for the public. Is comfortable working in a role where priorities and customer needs can change throughout the day. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in Marketing or a related field and at least one year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the position. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Must successfully complete background and reference checks. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Information Technology, or a closely related field. Two years of progressively responsible experience in multimedia communications or marketing. Graphic design experience. Photography and/or videography experience. Schedule This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position . While the position primarily works in an office environment, some evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required to support City events, meetings, and activities. Some travel within Grandview is also required.
