Fiscal Specialist - Sheriff's Department

Responsibilities Processing invoices received from vendors for a $7.9 million operating budget, including inmate medical invoices using Medicaid reimbursement rates. Preparing monthly, quarterly, or annual invoices for services provided by the Sheriff’s Department (average 40 invoices per month). Entering journals to charge internal departments for services. Entering requisitions and purchase orders for items needed by the Department and purchasing directly from vendors using the department purchasing card. Allocating credit cards monthly for all staff with department purchasing cards (approximately 15 cards). Processing expense reports for staff travel and assisting with travel reconciliations after conferences or training sessions. Acting as a backup for the Department’s Fiscal Specialist responsible for payroll entry. Salary Range $24.35 - $32.15 per hour Interaction This position interacts regularly with staff in Accounting, Purchasing, Treasurer’s Office, Public Works, and the Sheriff’s Department, as well as with external vendors, service providers, and entities receiving services from the Sheriff’s Department. Skills and Attributes The candidate must possess strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel, teamwork qualities, strong communication and customer service skills, and the ability to handle work assignments independently and efficiently. Three years of post‑high‑school work experience in finance or accounting. A post‑high‑school education from a recognized college or university in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field may be substituted for the work experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.
