Intern - Kite Research - Protein Science

Gilead Sciences seeks an intern to support protein science research within the Kite division, focusing on exploratory projects in protein production, engineering workflows, and lab automation. The role involves hands-on laboratory work in recombinant protein expression, characterization, and documentation over a 10–12 week summer period.
Responsibilities
- Support exploratory protein production and engineering projects, including assay evaluation and technology assessment
- Conduct recombinant protein expression, purification, and biophysical characterization
- Maintain detailed records and documentation using electronic lab notebooks and LIMS systems
- Communicate experimental plans and results through oral presentations and written reports
- Coordinate tasks across multiple projects and deliver final presentation at internship conclusion
Requirements
- Enrolled full-time in Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program at accredited U.S. institution
- Minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA; official transcripts required
- Independent work authorization in United States; no sponsorship needed
- At least 18 years old; ability to commit 10–12 consecutive weeks May–August
- Willingness to work hybrid at Foster City, California site; relocation may be required
- PhD preferred; Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, or related field preferred
- Experience with recombinant protein expression, purification, and analytical methods (SDS-PAGE, UPLC/HPLC, DLS)
Compensation: $19.00–$55.00 hourly; paid holidays, sick time, and housing stipends for eligible employees
