Join us in shaping futures, strengthening our region, and contributing to a mission-driven culture rooted in service and opportunity.Essential DutiesAssist the VMT Animal Facilities Manager, attending VMT veterinarians, and VMT students with, but not limited to:Daily check-in with supervisor to see if there are any tasks to be completedPerform daily walk-through inspections using the SOP checklistVerify any daily colony animal medication administrations as prescribed by the supervisor or attending veterinariansManage the kennel phone for student contactReport any animal health or behavior concerns to the AFM and attending veterinariansPerform weekly to monthly animal facilities task as per SOP'sMaintain cleanliness in all areas of the facility to USDA standardsProvide coverage for animal care shifts involving absent students, holidays, student breaks, college closure dates and inclement weatherUnder the direction of the supervisor or attending veterinarian, administer monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives to colony animalsAssist the supervisor or attending veterinarians in new animal processing tasks (vaccines, fecal floats, microchips, etc.)Perform student training of required animal care duties including:Kennel DutyCat ward dutyLab animal dutyIsolationEnrichmentAssist with monthly inventory of medications, supplies etc. to cull expired items and to determine medications, supplies etc. to re-orderRotate stock and alerting the supervisor with regards to food, litter, and bedding ordersCompile monthly colony animal status reports for the supervisorFacilitate colony animal adoptionsConduct application reviews and phone screening of adoption applicationsMeet potential adopters for Cougar Pets "Meet and Greet" sessionsAid in maintenance of the colony animal Facebook and website pagesServe as a resource and point of contact for students.Follow and support College activities, policies, procedures, and philosophies.Other duties as assigned.Minimum RequirementsHigh School diploma or higher, andAt least six months to one year of animal care experience.Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:Attention to detailProven work ethic and reliabilityKnowledge of Microsoft Office computer applicationsEffective oral and written communication skillsDemonstrate flexibility and positive demeanor in the face of changeAbility to interact professionally with students, supervisors, and veterinarians at all timesPreferred RequirementsExperience using a digital patient medical record systemExperience using BlackBoard
