Basic Function In this position, the candidate will perform all functions necessary to program, prepare, and machine new product prototypes and production tooling components in a fast‑paced work environment for the New Product Development department. The goal is to maintain an aggressive schedule and provide consistent, high‑quality machined prototype tooling, components, and mold modifications to the standards of Sabert and its customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accurately program supplied CAD models and fabricate new products for the plastic thermoforming industry, including quality prototyping, assists, modifications, tool upgrades, repair of production tooling, test fixtures, and jigs. Perform all CNC functions and operations: programming, part setup, tool calibration, cutting parameters, file management, and file storage. Adhere to the schedule of jobs to maximize CNC equipment utilization and adjust priorities as needed. Design and fabricate plugs, assists, jigs, and test components. Polish, vent, drill, and tap as needed. Interface with designers, engineers, manufacturing, and shop personnel. Set up and operate Bridgeport milling machines, horizontal lathes, table saws, drill presses, and other standard tool shop equipment. Work with materials including aluminum, steel, Renshape polyurethane, epoxy, and syntactic foams. Maintain CNC machinery and inventory of all tools, ensuring new tools meet specifications. Recommend improvements to enhance shop reliability and speed. Maintain metrics for programming and machine utilization and report to the tool room manager. Determine items that need to be purchased or replaced and submit requisitions. Perform all work consistently with established safety procedures. Efficiently and accurately fabricate new tooling and samples in a safe, organized, and clean environment. Deliver and pick up equipment, parts, and tools for repairs. Use hand and power tools as required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong CNC programming/machinist skill using Mastercam as the primary CAM software. Firsthand knowledge of G and M CNC programming and operation. Machining skills: close‑tolerance lathe and mill work, reading blueprints, and use of precision measuring equipment (dial calipers, micrometers). Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Proactive, innovative thinker with a sense of urgency and detail orientation. Safety and quality conscious. Excellent reporting, communication, and interpersonal skills. Team player willing to learn, grow, and contribute. Physical Characteristics Lift up to 70 lbs. Good manual dexterity and vision. Mental alertness. Standing on feet for up to 8+ hours a day. Ability to withstand extreme heat temperatures occasionally. Work in a continuous production environment. Education High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. 1–5+ years machinist experience. Mastercam experience a plus.
