Overview Student & Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in Cornell students and supports the campus on pressing student life matters such as public service, health, wellbeing, residence, food services, recreation, and student organizations. The Office of Housing and Residential Life (HRL) aims to provide a high‑quality, safe, comfortable and purposeful living and learning environment aligned with university values and learning goals. The Residential Life live‑on team includes 21 Residence Hall Directors (RHDs) and approximately 225 student leaders, supporting roughly 7,500 first‑year, upper‑level, graduate and professional students and their families. Community Structure First‑year/Upper‑level housing focuses on transitioning students through their Cornell journey. Communities are co‑ed except for one building open to female and non‑binary‑identified students only. Program Houses are themed‑living communities with close‑knit involvement, regular events, programming and outreach. Position Summary The Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a 12‑month live‑in role that provides leadership, student development, community and program development, administrative management, conduct management, and oversight for a community ranging from 60–600 undergraduate students. The RHD supervises, trains, and supports 5–20 resident advisors or other student leaders, collaborates with facilities, public safety, faculty, and community partners, and serves on an on‑call rotation to support safety and security. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Key Responsibilities Provide inclusive, engaging living environments that promote student success, belonging, and wellness. Serve as a mentor for resident advisors and student leaders. Manage conduct cases and advise hall council. Collaborate with faculty‑in‑residence, community fellows, and campus partners. Support crisis response and participate in safety rotations. All team members are expected to foster a culture of belonging, respectful communication, cooperative collaboration, and work/life integration. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. At least 2 years of relevant experience in residential administration, community development, student affairs program planning or implementation at the graduate or professional level. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Team‑player mindset, ability to manage priorities in evolving environments. Required to live in residence halls 12 months per year. Experience modeling inclusion, belonging and wellbeing values. Ability to advocate for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in student personnel/higher education or related field. Commitment to working with residential students. Experience using business/technical tools for data management and analysis. Compensation and Work Parameters Pay range: $47,000.00 – $55,704.00. On‑site location. No visa sponsorship.
