Lead Software Engineer - Java, React (CTO)

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal software engineering training or certification, with at least 5 years of applied experience.
• Expertise in distributed systems, application architecture, and technical leadership, including setting standards and leading cross-team initiatives.
• Experience leading the responsible use of approved AI-assisted development tools and validating their outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Understanding of responsible AI practices, data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and coaching engineers on compliant adoption.
• Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining software in large enterprise environments using modern programming languages and database query languages.
• Hands-on proficiency in Java, JavaScript or TypeScript, and Python, with a record of delivering robust GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Deep full-SDLC experience, especially with secure, resilient, observable systems and AWS cloud-native architectures, including multi-AZ or multi-region resiliency.
• Understanding of agile practices, CI/CD, application resilience, and security, with the ability to improve engineering workflows.
• Ability to mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and guide architecture decisions that improve reliability, performance, and developer productivity.
• Advanced knowledge in one or more technical disciplines, such as cloud, AI/ML, mobile, or data platforms, and the ability to apply it in product contexts.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including aligning technical decisions with business outcomes and product strategy.
• Preferred: Terraform and Infrastructure as Code expertise, including modular patterns and guardrails.
• Preferred: Experience with relational and distributed databases, data modeling, performance tuning, and operational considerations; PostgreSQL, video streaming, content management, or media platforms are a plus.
• Preferred: Background in observability, performance optimization, and cloud cost governance.
• Preferred: Experience with Hugo or other static site generators, content pipelines, artifact publishing, and Lucene or similar full-text search.
• Preferred: Experience building Module Federation micro-frontends and Go CLI tools for scaffolding, validation, and build automation.
• Preferred: Experience with content authoring and publishing platforms, RSS/email delivery, MCP channels, ADFS-based SSO, role-based access control, and Bitbucket/GitHub integrations.

• Set platform architecture and technical strategy for one or more products, ensuring secure, scalable, resilient solutions throughout the SDLC.
• Lead complex initiatives from discovery and design through delivery and operations, establishing engineering standards, reusable patterns, and reference implementations, including capability-first API designs.
• Design and implement cloud-native software and integrations with Jira, Bitbucket/GitHub, and event-driven notification and delivery workflows.
• Architect backend services, GraphQL APIs, modern React interfaces, Module Federation micro-frontends, and Hugo-based static content pipelines, maintaining robust API and client-server contracts.
• Develop content discovery and publishing capabilities, including Lucene-based search, documentation across more than 50 content modules, and authoring pipelines; contribute to the go/blogs and go/engineers merge track.
• Write secure, high-quality, documented code across relevant languages and frameworks, including Java Spring Boot, React.js, GraphQL, Python, and Go.
• Mentor engineers through design and code reviews and hands-on guidance; work with Product Owners and stakeholders to define roadmaps, measurable technical outcomes, product metrics, and KPIs.
• Establish and uphold security, performance, availability, observability, and cost-efficiency standards, including SLOs/SLAs, error budgets, CI/CD quality gates, ADFS-based SSO, and role-based access control.
• Assess and introduce technologies, lead proofs of concept, and promote secure-by-design practices, threat modeling, and proactive risk identification.
• Guide adoption and governance of approved AI-assisted engineering practices, define validation standards, and encourage reuse of proven patterns and automation across the SDLC and toolchain.
• Apply SDLC toolchain capabilities, including approved AI-assisted development and automation, to increase the value of automation at scale.
