CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

Position The Rowland Unified School District is seeking a Construction Manager to manage district bond‑funded construction, modernization, renovation, capital improvement, and deferred maintenance projects. This is a 12‑month management‑level exempt position. Summary of Duties Plan, coordinate, and monitor assigned district construction projects; liaise with schools, staff, contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, and public agencies; oversee project implementation through schedule, budget, inspection, and close‑out; assess facility renovation and repair needs; ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and agency requirements; and resolve project‑related issues to support timely and successful completion of assigned projects. Distinguishing Characteristics Primary focus on bond‑funded work and specialized knowledge of public‑school construction practices, project coordination, contract documents, building codes, public works requirements, construction schedules, budgets, inspections, and related compliance requirements. Distinct from maintenance and operations, this class is responsible for coordinating assigned construction, modernization, renovation, and capital improvement projects rather than managing routine facilities operations. Education Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Structural), Construction Management, Architecture, or a closely related field. Alternatively, two years of public agency construction experience may be substituted for college education on a year‑for‑year basis. Experience At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience managing multi‑million‑dollar public school or public works construction projects, including direct responsibility for project planning, design coordination, budgeting, scheduling, contract administration, and construction phase oversight. Experience working with the California Division of the State Architect (DSA), Office of Public School Construction (OPSC), and state school construction programs is highly desirable. License / Certification Valid Class C California driver’s license and good driving record required and must be maintained during employment. Work Environment Employees work both inside and outside, in an office environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities and deadlines, may be required to drive an automobile to conduct work, and may be exposed to construction site and environmental hazards including noise and dust. Physical Requirements Stand, walk, sit, stoop or bend, reach overhead, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., use fingers repetitively, use both hands simultaneously, speak clearly, hear normal conversation, see small details, use a computer, and use a telephone. Transcripts or diplomas from foreign countries must be certified to meet US equivalent.
