Milwaukee County Department Of Transportation Highway Maintenance Worker II - Regular Assignment - Full TimeUnder the supervision of the Highway Management/Supervisory staff, the primary role of Highway Maintenance Worker 2 is to perform unskilled or semi-skilled construction-related labor in the highway maintenance division on State, County, and Interstate Highways.Job duties include:Equipment operation and road maintenanceSnow removalBituminous pavement and concrete repair and bridge maintenanceGrass mowing, tree removal, pruning and culvert and ditch maintenanceTraffic controlSafety appurtenance repairPerform all other duties as assigned by upper managementMinimum requirements:Current resident of the State of WisconsinValid WI Driver's LicenseHigh school diploma or G.E.D is requiredAbility to lift, push, pull and carry up to 60lbs.Preferred experience:Less than One (1) year of driving CDL rated vehicles or equipment, and previous construction experience preferredLicense required:Valid State of Wisconsin Class B CDL Airbrake endorsement required at the time of application.Knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of the techniques, methods, materials and equipment used in maintenance and improvement of highways and roads; knowledge of public safety rules and regulations; knowledge and familiarity with the maintenance and lubrication and minor repair of a wide variety of vehicles, machinery and equipment; ability to operate a wide variety of vehicle and other equipment used in snow removal and in the improvement and maintenance of grounds and roads; ability to use hand tools of the trade; ability to follow both oral and written instructions; ability to work in adverse weather conditions; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with staff, the public and others. Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 60 lbs.Note: This original examination is open to current residents of the state of Wisconsin. In accordance with Rule III section 11 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position.
