Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides specialized nursing care to pregnant and postpartum patients, assisting with deliveries, monitoring fetal and maternal health, and supporting family-centered birth experiences. This role requires strong clinical skills in obstetrics, including vaginal and cesarean deliveries, fetal monitoring, and postpartum care. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective care in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities:

Assist with vaginal deliveries and circulate for cesarean sections.
Provide postpartum care including fundus, lochia, and perineum assessment and management.
Administer and monitor therapies such as magnesium sulfate, Pitocin, and terbutaline.
Perform fetal monitoring using external fetal heart monitors (EFM), intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC), and non-stress tests (NST).
Conduct newborn care including APGAR scoring, radiant warmer use, and security banding.
Manage Foley catheter insertion and care.
Respond to obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage and pregnancy-induced hypertension.
Float within skillset to other units as required.
Utilize electronic health record systems for accurate charting, specifically EPIC.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Active New York Single State Registered Nurse (RN) license; pending licenses not accepted.
Certifications: OB-ACLS or ACLS, BLS, Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Experience with vaginal delivery assistance, cesarean section support, and postpartum care.
Proficiency in EPIC electronic medical record system.
Strong clinical skills in fetal and maternal monitoring and obstetric emergency management.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience with advanced fetal monitoring technology such as "Monica" wireless fetal monitoring.
Familiarity with neonatal equipment including Neopuff and Draeger warmers.
Prior experience in family-centered maternity care and Baby-Friendly hospital practices.

Special Considerations:

Shift hours alternate between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM for a 13-week contract.
Weekend work required every other weekend.
Availability to work every other holiday if needed.
No on-call requirement.
Floating to other units within skillset is expected.
Requests for time off, block scheduling, and special scheduling must be submitted upon contract submission.
Call-off policy allows cancellation of up to three shifts during the contract without penalty.
Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for RN roles.

Scheduling:

13-week contract with alternating 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Weekend shifts scheduled every other weekend.
Holiday shifts required every other holiday as needed.
