Senior Staff Research Scientist, Decision Sciences

Role Description

The Senior Staff Research Scientist, Decision Sciences will be responsible for:

• Developing and implementing techniques or analytics applications to transform raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software.
• Identifying high-impact business challenges and defining research opportunities in machine learning, optimization, signal processing, and related areas.
• Developing and presenting research project proposals for senior management review and prioritization.
• Conducting business impact analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
• Establishing and driving an independent research agenda aligned with Epsilon’s organizational objectives.
• Leading the research and development of proposed solutions and validating outcomes.
• Leading cross-functional initiatives and coordinating multi-team collaboration across engineering and analytics departments.
• Collaborating with team members to support ongoing research initiatives.
• Supervising and mentoring interns and junior team members.
• Participating in troubleshooting efforts for technical incidents.
• Participating in recruitment and hiring decisions, including interviewing candidates, to support team growth.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• One year of experience in the job offered or in any occupation in which the required experience was gained.

Requirements

• Utilize Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, Signal Processing, Detection & Estimation, Linear & Non-linear Optimization, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning to establish independent research agenda and lead related research and development efforts.
• Utilize programming languages, including Python, shell-scripting, and data processing libraries, including NumPy, pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn, to perform data analysis, identify business problems, conduct business impact analysis, and lead research and development processes.
• Utilize data visualization libraries, including Matplotlib, Seaborn, to effectively present research proposals and communicate business insights.
• Utilize querying languages including SQL, HiveQL to read/write data from/to proprietary datasets.
• Utilize PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras to design and recommend deep neural network architectures for predictive modeling.
• Utilize knowledge of Data Structures, Algorithms, and Software Architectures to recommend optimized solutions and ensure high code quality standards.
• Utilize Linux and command line interface to interact with compute servers.
• Utilize distributed computing and big data processing to recommend computationally efficient solutions on compute clusters.
• Utilize Jupyter notebooks to develop prototype solutions and collaborate with other team members.
• Utilize version control systems, including Git, for code reproducibility and maintainability.
• Utilize LaTeX to create research proposals and technical reports, involving documentation of mathematical models.
