Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Job Description Under minimal supervision, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist applies advanced technical skills and seasoned judgment to independently and competently provide a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services in a hospital-based laboratory. The position involves working with a diverse patient population, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. The role includes performing CLIA defined high complexity testing, ensuring quality control, and maintaining laboratory standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform all levels of testing, including high complexity testing and laboratory services.
• Evaluate, judge, and interpret test results ensuring accuracy.
• Identify and resolve inconsistencies in patient results and troubleshoot problems with MLTs and LSTs.
• Provide specialized expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology, and infectious disease safety.
• Train and evaluate the competency of staff, including new employees and laboratory students.
• Establish and maintain a quality control program appropriate for the department.
• Prepare the laboratory for inspection from regulatory institutions.
• Review and submit data related to quality measures and policies and procedures.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field is required along with active ASCP or AMT certification. A minimum of three years of laboratory experience is necessary, demonstrating knowledge of high complexity testing and laboratory quality control standards.
