ARDMS Technologist

The ARRT Technologist performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line with customers in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Perform a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical and professional personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.

The evaluation is to assure individual performance, departmental goals and organizational goals are aligned. It is designed to support communication between the manager and the employee. Employee perception of their own performance is very important. To maximize the benefit of this process, both the manager and the employee participate in the evaluation process.

High School Diploma or GED

Graduate from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology

Successful completion of an approved one-year ultrasound technology program preferred.

Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

BCLS certification

Additional certifications may include CT, Echo, MRI, US, and Nuclear Medicine

ARDMS

One year of relevant experience preferred.

Technologist must possess compassion, a gentle touch, good communications skills, patient focus and attention to detail.

Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients as evidenced by:

Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation patients.

Responsible for safe handling of equipment.

Instructs and prepares patients for examinations.

Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.

Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patient accordingly.

Makes special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures such as: intravenous pyelograms, mammograms (per license), hysterosalpingograms, tomograms, arthrograms and surgical procedures.

Programs portable or stationary imaging equipment and makes images for a variety of examinations.

Processes images

Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.

Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.

Assists in maintaining files as required.

Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel. Interacts professionally with patient and family members.

Completes all work before clocking out leaving, this includes checking with the organizer/ supervisor as needed.

Is acquainted with local fire and safety regulations as well as hospital codes.

Complies and maintains quality assurance information for all States Agencies and regulatory departments, such as FDA, State, JCAHO, and the ACR, as required.

Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.

Completes and maintains assigned duties.

Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens as evidenced by:

Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.

Attends annual education programs.

Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment as evidenced by:

Explains all procedures to patients.

Position patients for each anatomical view using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

Demonstrate acceptable image quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors, and collimation.

Understands and uses PACS system.

Adjust equipment for proper radiographic exposure technique in accordance with radiation safety guidelines.

Meets requiremements and has successfully completed competencies in other modalities if applicable.

Ultrasound (US) Specific Job Duties

Assist physician with biopsy procedures, guiding biopsy instrument using sonographic techniques.

Perform invasive ultrasound procedures, doppler vascular examinations, deep abdominal studies and color-flow ultrasound as required.

Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies, instruments and equipment.

Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures to include taking vital signs and measurements and positioning patients for each anatomical view; explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation of patients.

Assist medical and professional personnel during diagnostic procedures to include handling instruments, operating, and monitoring equipment and calling out equipment readings.

Evaluate technical quality of Images.

Process images in accordance with standard procedures or techniques.

Maintain records of ultrasound images taken, archiving and de-archiving data.

Calibrate, clean and perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; clean and sterilize instruments, supplies and equipment; stock and replenish supplies as required.

Provide technical assistance and instruction to students and employees.
