Job Summary The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and management of the daily operations and activities of the assigned Pharmacy area. The Supervisor establishes the process for effective pharmacy operations including dispensing and distribution, and monitoring, and compliance with applicable State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Performs all functions related to managing the day-to-day operations, scheduling and workflows for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Leads, directs, coaches and evaluates employees in the performance of operational and clinical functions, standard methodologies and best practices. Ensures the quality, integrity of processes and operational efficiency. Meets and performs all activities associated with the supervision of people. Essential Functions Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. Establish the responsibilities and schedules to be assigned to pharmacists and technicians, as appropriate. Supervise day-to-day drug distribution and compounding activities, and assist in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of daily operations of the assigned pharmacy areas. Serve as a role model and mentor, and assist with unit workload performing the duties of a clinical pharmacist. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of Departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensure compliance of the department Policies/Procedures, SOPs, and correct record keeping. Oversee and assist the training of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students and residents in the assigned pharmacy areas. Assist in budget adherence and perform special projects as assigned. Evaluate and conduct employee performance reviews. Minimum Qualifications Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education. Experience: Completion of a PGY-2 Residency program, OR completion of a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Pediatric program OR PGY-1 and 1 year of related hospital experience OR Five (5) years of related hospital experience. RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support OR Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) RQI Healthcare Provider Pediatric Advanced Life Support OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) Registered Pharmacist by California Board of Pharmacy Knowledge Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate work results. Ability to work effectively both as a team player and leader. Ability to work with devices, information systems, automated and technical equipment utilized in pharmacy. Knowledge of influence of patient's age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility. Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations; pharmacology and pharmacological nomenclature; medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and disease states. Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies. Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice. Knowledge of prescription and non-prescription drugs and drug products and their indications, efficacy, dosage, mechanisms of action, fate and disposition (if known), major contraindications and potential side effects. Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
