Woodland Public Schools - Maintenance Technician (Long-Term Sub) Position Title: Maintenance Technician (Long Term Substitute) Location: All Days/Hrs: 8 hrs per day, M-F Estimated end date 11/1/26 Start Date: 08/31/2026 Pay Schedule: Link to Schedule Benefits: Position does not qualify for health benefits, but does qualify for retirement benefits through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).

Job Summary: The Maintenance position contributes to student learning by maintaining operational systems and environments for students. The work assists the superintendent toward the accomplishment of the mission of the Woodland Public Schools of preparing students for career, life, and college so that they can become responsible and successful citizens. Work is performed under the direction of the Facilities and Safety Director.

Qualifications: Ability to work around children and present a positive role model High school diploma or equivalent Working knowledge of maintenance practices Working knowledge of lockout/tag out (energy control) principles Understanding of basic electrical safety practices Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and visitors to the District Understanding of safety protocol and disposal requirements associated with chemicals Understanding of the use and need for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Understand the usage and location of SDS (Safety Data Sheets) Regular and punctual Verifiable experience in building maintenance, construction techniques, Mechanical and Plumbing Systems Verifiable experience in the use of hand tools and power tools and power equipment, including lifts, pneumatics, hydraulics and all mechanical hand tools Knowledge of basic wall construction framing, sheetrock, texturing and painting Knowledge of painting equipment and procedures, indoor and exterior applications Familiar with the permitting process, building, and electrical codes Experience in the repair of door hardware

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinate with skilled tradesmen and contractors for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently. Install classroom, office, and mechanical equipment and facility components (e.g., lighting, heating and ventilating systems, alarms, plumbing, security, electrical panels, etc.) Maintains assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition. Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of gathering information to perform required functions Perform a wide variety of general maintenance activities (e.g., carpentry, painting, electrical, etc.) within assigned time frames Proficient in the preparation of surfaces for primers and paint, including application procedures Respond to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns Transport a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site Treat co-workers, students, supervisors, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times Proficient at framing, covering, texturing, and painting interior walls and other projects Arranges furniture and equipment in preparation for special events Assists others with projects (e.g., transporting and/or securing materials, completing specific tasks, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects in a safe, efficient manner With limited training be able to isolate natural gas, water, and electrical facilities to the schools Work Habits Performs duties efficiently Utilizes time appropriately Maintains an organized and safe work area Ensures confidentiality of Information Adheres to regulations Produces quality work Completes work on schedule Shows Initiative Demonstrates flexibility Uses safety equipment when appropriate Adapts and incorporates program and policy changes Interpersonal Skills Shows respect for others Shows sensitivity to the needs of others Displays effective listening skills Communicates problems and concerns effectively and courteously Dependability Works independently of close supervision Maintains an acceptable attendance record Arrives on time and ready to work Attitude Demonstrates a positive feeling for work Accepts difficult assignments Accepts supervision re: direction, improvement Acts professionally on the job site Technical Skills Maintains and operates equipment Performs assigned cleaning tasks Follows appropriate safety guidelines Maintains accurate reports/records Demonstrates overall knowledge of job requirements Other Wears proper clothing and footwear Presents appropriate appearance Participates in and takes advantage of educational opportunities Provides emergency assistance when needed Reports major repair needs Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
