Certified Nursing Assistant

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. Please note: This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rate for this classification is $4,840. Please be advised of the following additional pay benefits individuals may be eligible for:

• Employees who are employed at HIGH DESERT STATE PRISON (HDSP) for 12 consecutive qualifying pay periods will receive an annual $2600 recruitment and retention bonus.

Under the supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), and the delegation and clinical direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), CF and other members of the licensed nursing team, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional health care activities for patients in a variety of treatment facilities and health care settings. As directed and in collaboration with the nursing care team, the CNA is primarily responsible for performing basic nursing care procedures, assisting patients with physical, personal care, activities of daily living, and ambulatory assistance needs. The CNA is responsible for addressing the ongoing needs of patients, working with the licensed nursing staff and other health care providers, and promoting the efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective use of health care resources.
