Director Of HSE

We are currently seeking a Director of HSE for our Central Water Division, in the Austin and San Antonio area. The Director of HSE oversees implementation of aspects of health, safety and environmental (HSE) programs to ensure compliance with the corporate HSE programs, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities include:

• Serving as the company's HSE champion for assigned region, providing technical HSE expertise as well as knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
• Monitoring and communicating developments in state and regional government and industry HSE rules and regulations. Developing compliance strategies related to HSE regulatory requirements.
• Appointing HSE Managers to projects and overseeing performance. Completing annual 13-point evaluations for all jobsite supervisors and managers.
• Assisting in the prequalification and direction of subcontractors used to support projects.
• Conducting periodic worksite visits to ensure appropriate precautions are in place and assisting in the development of control measures for the region. Conducting reviews to assist in the timely correction of deficiencies. Overseeing the investigation process of incidents occurring in the assigned region.
• Providing consistent leadership to HSE staff as well as project management. Ensuring that a significant portion of time is spent on project sites.
• Facilitating New Hire Management Orientation; completing orientation of all new hires (Foremen, Superintendents, Project Management) within 3 months of hire.
• Conducting quarterly audits of all assigned projects. Actively requesting the assistance of top management in conducting these audits. Facilitating SPATs in the assigned region.
• Completing weekly safety reports for HSE Leadership and the BGL. Meeting with BGL and PM at least once per month. Maintaining HSE files and records for the region.
• Advising HSE Leadership on compliance concerns and efficiency of HSE practices.
• Overseeing safety training for the business group. Ensuring training is done in a timely fashion and trainers are qualified. Conducting, scheduling, and monitoring training.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent
• CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) Certification and
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Safety Management Supervisor (SMS) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Minimum 10 years of experience, with most of the experience on major construction projects
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and ability to prioritize, organize and manage time. Knowledge of regulations and standards as well as hazard recognition and injury management skills.
• Some travel required
• Required to stand, walk, sit and/or climb stairs or ladders
