IN-IDOH QA Analyst - Laboratory Information Management Systems

About the Role
Join the Indiana Department of Health as a QA Analyst supporting laboratory excellence and public health initiatives. In this impactful position, you'll collaborate with chemists and developers to enhance data accuracy, traceability, and regulatory compliance within our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), STARLIMS. This role offers unique exposure to both software quality assurance and hands-on laboratory operations in a mission-driven public sector environment.

Responsibilities

- Collaborate with chemists and IT teams to capture and translate quality assurance requirements into electronic formats and LIMS workflows.
- Revise and optimize Python code and data operations for more efficient integration with STARLIMS.
- Design, update, and validate quality assurance standards based on EPA chemistry test methods, focusing on accuracy and reproducibility.
- Review and improve laboratory operational features to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Conduct in-depth reviews of analytical data packages for compliance with EPA, FDA, and Indiana Department of Environmental Management standards.
- Validate and audit Excel spreadsheets used for critical analytical calculations.
- Ensure traceability and integrity of laboratory data through robust documentation and electronic records.
- Evaluate chemical inventory systems for accuracy and compliance.
- Review annual competencies of chemists and verify adherence to reporting guidelines.
- Recommend program improvements and identify discrepancies between user applications and established quality standards.

Required Skills and Experience

- 1-3 years of quality assurance experience in analytical, environmental, or chemical laboratory settings.
- Working knowledge of EPA chemistry test methods and laboratory QA/QC procedures.
- Proficiency in Python for revising and optimizing data operations.
- Experience collaborating with IT and scientific teams to implement and validate LIMS.
- Track record of conducting detailed reviews of laboratory data and documentation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Commitment to maintaining validated electronic records and audit trails.

Preferred Skills

- Familiarity with STARLIMS or similar LIMS platforms.
- Experience with regulatory compliance for EPA, FDA, or state laboratory programs.
- Skills in chemical inventory system evaluation.
- Prior validation of analytical Excel spreadsheets and audit processes.
