Shift: Full Time, Mon-Fri, or as needed


Job Summary:

This position is accountable for performing skilled tree trimming work along City streets to keep electrical lines clear of branches; also, does related work as required. They are under the direct supervision of the Tree Trimmer Leader and general supervision of the Assistant Foreman and/or Foreman, who may from time-to-time review said work, methods of results, and are given general instructions on assignments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all cutting/clearing of tree limbs, treetops, branches clear of electric distribution system located in and around the City of Niles
• Works from aerial truck, and performs routine maintenance and servicing on trucks
• Repairing, cleaning and sharpening power saws and hydraulic pruners
• Drive trucks
• Climb ladders into trees and climbs trees, lowering branches when needed with ropes.
• Operate woodchipper
• Attend safety meeting learning new rules, regulations, and safe work practices
• This classification will be cross trained and required to perform all departmental duties
• Any other work given within reason from the administration of the department

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of practices, methods, tool, and equipment utilized in tree trimming operations
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices of the work
• Willingness and ability to climb trees and work in adverse weather conditions
• Considerable judgment and initiative are required within established policy guidelines
• Ability to make arithmetic computations
• Knowledge of the safe and proper use of rope, knots, and rope rigging
• Dependable
• Ability to make decisions in accordance with the laws, ordinances, regulations, and department policies and procedures
• Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained
• Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the general public

Requirements and Qualifications:

• High School diploma (GED equivalent) required
• Must have valid CDL- Class A or B license
• Must have First Aid/CPR Certification
• Must pass physical agility test, upon hire
• Must be able to pass Fit-For-Duty physical, upon request
• Must have 2 years of experience in tree climbing, trimming, and pruning and work under, over and along electric utility lines
• Requires heavy lifting

Essential Functions:

• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Able to communicate via phone, radio and in person and exchange accurate information in such situations
• Able to sit, stand, lift, bend, walk, etc.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb trees
• Ability to handle emergencies in all weather conditions at varying times
• Ability to handle high pressure situations calmly

Requirements

Must meet following requirements to be considered:

*Have valid CDL A/B license

*Have 2 years of experience in tree climbing, trimming and pruning, and work under, over and along electric utility lines
