Law Enforcement Records Specialists work in one of three areas: Court Support Team, Inmate Records Team, or Inmate Processing Team./ppstrongCourt Support:/strong Works very closely with Patrol Deputies/Officers, managing Warrants, No-Contact Orders and Protection Orders./ppstrongInmate Records:/strong Works closely with Detention Deputies and Patrol Deputies/Officers from all agencies in Ada County. Inmate Records manages court paperwork, video court, and inmates records. They also scan documents and handle a high volume of customers at our front counter./ppstrongInmate Processing:/strong Works with Patrol Deputies/Officers from all agencies and Detention Deputies. Inmate Processing manages booking of inmates and is responsible for securing inmate property, running criminal histories for classification of inmates and provides customer service in our jail lobby./ppAll three of these positions require skills in customer service, typing, and data entry. No degree or experience required. You will attend a 5-week training academy. Work is performed under well-established guidelines set forth by State and Federal law. The scope of work requires a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and attention to detail. These positions interact extensively with law enforcement officers, the courts, attorneys, and jail management staff. These positions are in the Ada County Sheriffs Office, Administrative Services Bureau. New Law Enforcement Records Specialists will start out at a Level I pay rate of $19.50/hr. As they acquire the required skills, they have the opportunity to promote to a Level II pay of $21.50/hr. (usually occurs within the first year) and then to a Level III pay of $23.50/hr./ppLaw Enforcement Records Specialists work 40 hours a week. Shifts vary and are based upon which of the three areas a technician is assigned to. Must be able to work all shifts, including nights, days, weekends, and holidays but will be assigned to a shift for a period of time. Visit Employee Benefits to view details regarding our full benefits package./ppEssential functions include operating general office equipment, including computers, scanners, and printers; operating a central telephone console to receive and route calls and control access to staff; reading and routing incoming mail; performing records searches on computer databases; scanning documents into several electronic filing systems; helping the public with inquiries by identifying and resolving problems and/or referring to appropriate staff for resolution; researching records requests; maintaining files and other records; explaining policies and procedures pursuant to requests of the public, other officials, and departments; and working and maintaining eligibility to work all shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, whether assigned or on an as needed or on-call basis./ppAdditional functions include helping public file reports, cross training in other areas, and performing related functions as required./ppJob requirements include possessing a high school diploma or equivalent, having a valid and current drivers license, knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling, knowledge of modern office equipment, practice and procedures, skill in performing customer service, skill in organizing and accurately accomplishing work within limited timeframes, skill in communicating with culturally diverse populations, ability to type at least 40 wpm, ability to maintain a large amount of data with a high degree of accuracy, ability to research, investigate and correct data, ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of records and processes, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and ability to interact effectively with the general public, fellow employees, inmates and their families, court officials, and others in stressful situations./ppOther requirements include being deputized in order to make work actions effective, appearing before an oral board and successfully completing a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire, and being subject to random drug testing as this position has been designated safety sensitive./ppWork environment and physical demands include working primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions. Work duties and tasks for some Records Specialist positions may be performed within the jail environment in close contact with inmates and offenders. Some areas, such as Booking and Lobby may require working around and with hazardous materials including, but not limited to, narcotics, weapons, bodily fluids, and other crime-related evidence. May be required to lift up to 35 lbs.
