Construction Manager - Transmission Line - Iowa

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA, US Job Summary: Responsible for coordination of the construction on the project. Coordinates compliance with the schedule, safety, cost, and quality decisions in conjunction with the Project Field Manager. Key Responsibilities Provides the site construction teams the means, methods, and staffing to support construction of Transmission Lines and substations. Works with EH&S group to develop and maintain safety program associated with Transmission Line Construction activities. Develops and maintains construction procedures and quality programs associated with the Construction of Transmission Line work. Identifies and supports the sourcing of tooling and equipment necessary for the installation of Transmission Lines. Supports Transmission Line project proposals, including development of staffing, equipment, and other direct and indirect quantities and costs to support estimate development. Leads and participates in design constructability reviews. Supports subcontract development for projects as needed. Active involvement in project risk reviews, including identifying and developing mitigation plans associated with Transmission Line Construction. Assists site team in resolving problems and reports on issues related to drawings, schedule, quality, quantity tracking, cost reporting, and safety. Monitors discipline construction productivity, progress, and cost, and reports to Operations Manager, Construction Manager, and Project Controls Manager. Takes necessary actions to maintain targets and develops corrective plans to ensure progress and productivity targets are met. Verifies that all equipment, material, manpower, and resources needed to support the project schedule are available and on site. Reviews all timesheets, installed quantity reports, and progress payment requests. Develops a stable working relationship with client and assigned subcontractor(s). Develops and distributes a Job Hazard Analysis for major erection packages within scope. Identifies potential back charges and out‑of‑scope issues and reports to Construction Manager. Supports commercial recovery process. Adheres to safety and quality standards as applicable. Supports continuous improvement efforts and the change‑management effects associated with the implementation of improvements. Preferred Qualifications Transmission construction experience required. Substation construction experience. Bachelor’s degree in construction or engineering and Transmission Line Craft experience as lineman and above preferred. 3+ years of experience as Construction Manager level or above. 8+ years with a degree or 18+ years without a degree of Transmission Line Construction experience. Knowledge of project budget process and tools. Knowledge of department budget process and tools. Knowledge of project controls. Risk assessment and management. Administrative policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or related field preferred, or relevant field experience. 5+ years construction supervisory experience required. OSHA Training required. Certifications OSHA Training. Physical Demands Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Work above 5 feet in height. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and outside conditions. Work Environment Typical construction site environment. Work in cramped work spaces and awkward positions. Work in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. Work in extremely bright or low lighting conditions. Experience exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Work around hazardous equipment. Typical office environment. Position is considered a safety‑sensitive position.
