Radiology Technologist

Operates radiology equipment to produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic routine purposes. Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to examination specifications. Takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety. Retrieves radiologic orders from the electronic medical record and inputs related data. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Escorts patients to the dressing and x-ray rooms, provides instructions, and assists with positioning. Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation. Positions patients on examining tables and adjusts devices for optimum views of specified body areas. Operates specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision. Provides patient care across a broad range of health care needs, including emergency and outpatient settings. Moves radiograph equipment into specified positions and adjusts controls for graphic exposure factors. Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize exposure to patients and staff. Obtains acceptable radiologic images using CR/DR techniques and protocols. Ensures equipment operation by completing preventative maintenance and reporting malfunctions. Maintains examination rooms, orders, and stocks necessary supplies according to established protocols. Adheres to infection control policies and administers first aid when necessary. Supports department goals through personal improvements and attends mandatory in-services. Maintains professional standards as recommended by relevant societies. Assists with monitoring patients' levels of moderate sedation in inpatient settings. Initiates additional patient comfort measures as appropriate. Assures informed consent is obtained prior to procedures and that all patient questions are answered. Participates in the Universal Protocol for invasive procedures. Makes independent judgments in planning operations and decision-making in a technical field. Works directly with patients and/or customers through face-to-face interaction or telephone communication. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.
