GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Greenville Technical College English department invites applications for Instructor/Assistant Professor. The department serves approximately 7,000 students. The English department offers composition courses, business writing, literature courses (American, British, world, minority, short fiction, children’s and women’s studies, creative writing). Courses are offered in traditional, hybrid, and online formats, and the department participates in the Early College program for high school students. This position primarily requires teaching Dual Enrollment students at the high schools. Duties may include: Providing students with course syllabus and policies; relating instructional materials, discussions, and other activities to course objectives; demonstrating effective interaction skills using practical examples and illustrations that stimulate learning; relating assessments to course objectives; and returning graded work in a timely manner. Submitting reports in a timely manner, arranging the physical environment for effective learning, adhering to class schedules, and maintaining accurate records. Developing and/or modifying course content, maintaining course documentation, reviewing and selecting texts, and utilizing class time effectively. Maintaining required office hours, referring students for assistance (tutoring and similar) as needed, maintaining records per policies, and providing regular contact with assigned advisees. Covering classes as needed for multiple campuses as well as day, evening, or online classes. Adapting to the needs of students (traditional and Early College) to different teaching situations and the ability to motivate students. Working in teams and independently. Adhering to departmental and college guidelines, including those of Early College when applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate or master’s degree in English or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate or Master’s degree with a major in English or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in English. Teaching experience at the college level with community/technical college experience preferred.
