Dental Assisting Instructor

Location: Bradenton, FL

Position Type: Full-Time, 11-Month Teaching Position
Work Setting: On-Site
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m.
Base Salary: $54,774–$57,008 annually, based on experience
Additional Millage Supplement: $9,537 annually
Total Annual Salary: $64,311–$66,545

Position Overview

Ad-VANCE Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced dental professional who is passionate about teaching and preparing the next generation of dental assistants.

The Dental Assisting Instructor will provide classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction to secondary dual-enrolled and postsecondary students. The instructor will teach the clinical, technical, safety, professional, and employability skills students need to enter the dental field with confidence.

Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced dental assistant, Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, or dental hygienist who enjoys training and mentoring others and is interested in transitioning into education.

Updated Education Requirements

Candidates may qualify through one of the following pathways:

• Bachelor’s degree in any field; or

• Completion of college coursework with the willingness and ability to earn a bachelor’s degree within three years of the hire date.

Candidates hired without a completed bachelor’s degree must commit to meeting the bachelor’s degree requirement within the three-year accreditation timeframe.

Dental hygienists who have completed college coursework and are willing to earn a bachelor’s degree within three years may also be considered. Their education, licensure, clinical background, and other qualifications will be reviewed individually to determine whether they meet the remaining requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification and Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) credential, or other dental credentials determined acceptable by the hiring institution.

• College coursework completed, with a willingness to earn a bachelor’s degree within three years if one has not already been obtained.

• Current or recent professional experience in dental assisting, dental hygiene, or a closely related clinical dental setting.

• Experience with chairside assisting, dental radiography, infection control, sterilization, and dental equipment and instruments.

• Current knowledge of dental procedures, terminology, patient care, clinical safety standards, and expanded dental functions.

• Certified or eligible to become certified as a Career and Technical Education instructor in the appropriate subject area.

• Ability to meet applicable state, school district, accreditation, and program requirements.

• Ability to work on-site Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in any field.

• Previous experience teaching, training, coaching, mentoring, or supervising students or employees.

• Recent experience working in a dental office, clinic, or dental education program.

• Experience with four-handed dentistry and chairside dental assisting.

• Experience with dental radiography, impressions, temporary restorations, expanded functions, sterilization, and infection control.

• Familiarity with lesson planning, student assessments, competency evaluations, or Career and Technical Education programs.

• Comfortable using computers, email, classroom technology, and student-record systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction for the Dental Assisting program.

• Teach chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, dental radiography, impressions, cast fabrication, sterilization, infection control, OSHA requirements, patient care, and other applicable dental assisting functions.

• Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, demonstrations, assignments, and assessments.

• Demonstrate the proper use, maintenance, sanitation, and storage of dental instruments, equipment, and materials.

• Prepare students for applicable dental industry certifications, examinations, clinical experiences, and employment.

• Evaluate student performance through classroom assignments, laboratory exercises, skills demonstrations, and competency examinations.

• Monitor student progress and provide coaching, feedback, tutoring, and individualized support.

• Coordinate with clinical sites and monitor student performance during clinical experiences.

• Maintain a safe, organized, professional, and supportive classroom and laboratory environment.

• Establish clear expectations for student conduct and consistently follow applicable policies and procedures.

• Maintain accurate attendance, grading, testing, certification, and student-performance records.

• Incorporate current dental practices, technology, safety standards, and employer expectations into instruction.

• Stay informed about dental industry trends, regulatory changes, and instructional best practices.

• Collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff, employers, advisory committee members, and community partners.

• Assist with student recruitment, retention, career guidance, program planning, accreditation, and related instructional activities.

• Maintain accurate inventory records and help protect assigned equipment, supplies, and school property.

• Attend staff meetings, professional-development activities, graduation ceremonies, and other required events.

• Perform other duties related to the goals and responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities Outside the Regular School Day

The instructor will occasionally participate in activities outside the regular schedule, including:

• SkillsUSA activities

• HOSA activities

• Graduation ceremonies

• Program advisory meetings

• Other career and technical student organization activities or school-related events
