Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required License: Current nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Experience with wound management, JP drains, wound vacs, hemodialysis catheter care, fistulas, PCA, pain management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation is required. Description: This position is for a registered nurse in a telemetry unit. The unit has a focus on urology post-operative patients. Common procedures include robotic radical and simple prostatectomies, partial cystectomies, partial nephrectomies, open radical nephrectomies, and nephroureterectomies. There are many educational opportunities available. The unit also manages medical/surgical overflow patients, including those with sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID, and pneumonia. Post-operative overflow may occasionally include total joint surgeries and GI/abdominal surgeries. Patient ratios are 1:5-6 with a CNA available for support. The charge nurse will typically be free-floating. Phlebotomy is available on site, with RN capabilities for CVL/PICC/midline draws. IV/VAT teams are available during day shifts for PICC placement. The hospitalist is typically available in-house for most patients. The electronic medical record system in use is Meditech Expanse. Medication dispensing is managed via Pyxis, and IV pumps are Alaris. Travelers may be required to float to any medical/surgical area within the facility. Travelers will work a mandatory weekend rotation every other week. The schedule generally consists of four workdays one week and three workdays the next week. Up to seven days off may be requested, with specific approval conditions. Holiday expectations include working two out of three holidays. Scrubs must be pewter in color, with specific color requirements for T-shirts and jackets. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
