Staff Accountant

Williams Mullen is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team and play a key role in the firm's day-to-day financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to build a strong foundation in general ledger accounting, financial analysis, and professional services accounting within a collaborative law firm environment.

What You'll Do

As a Staff Accountant, you'll support a wide range of accounting functions while gaining hands-on experience across the full accounting cycle:

• Complete accounting duties for trust accounts, including cash receipts, disbursements, transfers, client fund documentation, and compliance support
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Support general ledger accounting and routine financial reporting
• Prepare and enter routine and adjusting journal entries, ensuring proper documentation
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing, check requests, and payment tracking
• Support month-end and year-end close activities by compiling reports and verifying accuracy
• Ensure closing processes are completed accurately and on time
• Assist with Personal Property Tax filings and government reporting as needed
• Communicate with internal stakeholders, clients, vendors, and third-party accounting partners on financial matters
• Maintain accurate electronic and physical accounting files in compliance with firm retention and confidentiality standards
• Perform other accounting, financial, and administrative duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

This role is ideal for someone early in their accounting career who is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required
• 2+ years of experience in general ledger accounting and/or financial analysis
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of accounting practices in a law firm or professional services environment (preferred, not required)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Effective time-management and prioritization skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidential financial information
