Project Accountant

A well-established and growing commercial general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join its accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who thrives in the construction industry and enjoys working closely with project managers throughout the life of a project.


The ideal candidate will have previous experience with a commercial general contractor and a strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and project financial management.

Responsibilities

• Manage project financials from project startup through closeout.
• Process subcontractor pay applications, owner billings, and change orders.
• Prepare and maintain job cost reports, WIP schedules, and budget tracking.
• Monitor project costs and assist project managers with financial forecasting.
• Reconcile project accounts and resolve billing discrepancies.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, lien waivers, and contract documentation.
• Collaborate with project managers and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain organized project documentation and ensure compliance with company procedures.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of project accounting experience with a commercial general contractor .
• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, AIA/progress billing, and construction contracts.
• Experience supporting multiple commercial construction projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, Sage, Foundation, Spectrum, Procore, or similar ERP systems.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management abilities.
