Radiology Technologist Lead

Job Overview Your job is more than a job. The Xray Technologist Lead performs duties directly involved with a variety of general Xray procedures. This includes applying ionizing radiation or other forms of energy, following sterile technique to scrub into procedures, and the ability to document relevant case information in the case log. This position requires independent judgment and use of critical thinking skills, and with ingenuity and initiative essential to successful completion of the procedure and satisfaction of the physician. Oversees the technologists and ancillary personnel and recommends scheduling of personnel. Assures a smooth patient flow. Ensures exam scheduling, equipment maintenance, and JCAHO compliance. Responsibilities Provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. Oversees and demonstrates skills and knowledge in the use of all x-ray equipment and performance of all x-ray protocols and procedures. Maintains technical proficiency in producing high quality scans that demonstrate the requested anatomical part within the appropriate length of time for each procedure type. Demonstrates satisfactory working knowledge of PACS/RIS and reviews scans with the radiologist to identify important anatomical detail and abnormalities. Accomplishes all positioning required for each procedure and applies immobilization devices for patient comfort. Selects proper technique factors and produces images of desired quality. Performs calibration tests to satisfy density factors and meets correct specifications prior to utilization. Performs proper warm-up procedures to avoid equipment damage. Applies radiation protection procedures daily to eliminate excessive radiation to patients and others in the room. Demonstrates borders on all images and uses collimation devices to eliminate excessive radiation. Assists in delivery of care, arms syringes, and assists the physician in the delivery of contrast media without error. Identifies malfunctions in the injector, takes appropriate corrective action, and recognizes life-threatening situations to assist the health-care team. Transports patients as necessary and transfers them to the table. Assists in the use of equipment or procedures that are not routinely taught. Assists and evaluates students, and supports personnel to ensure proper care without deficiencies in film quality or patient complaints. Seeks additional information as needed, makes suggestions to improve the established manual, and seeks assistance for complex or non-routine learning needs from appropriate authority. Participates in sterile technique presentations and applies them daily. Documents records and charges in the case event log with appropriate chronology and complete supply records, and ensures all films are properly identified per department policy. Inspects, maintains, and cleans all equipment daily in a manner that prevents damage or excessive wear; secures equipment to avoid loss or damage when not in use; and informs the Director of any situations that may produce staff, patient, or physician complaints. Provides daily assignments of technologists to expedite workflow, supplies a monthly call schedule to the Director and hospital operator, instructs and trains all new employees, documents on-the-job injuries and forwards them via proper channels on the same day, and works closely with the department’s Director to formulate protocols and charges for any new procedure. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of Xray experience. Licenses & Certifications Basic Life Support HeartSaver & First Aid through the American Heart Association. Licensed Radiology Technician through the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. Radiography Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Skills & Abilities Knowledge of general anatomy and physiology, radiation properties of X-ray and fluoroscopy equipment, and state licensure laws. Ability to administer Basic Life Support and place monitoring devices on patients, position patients on the table, and use manual dexterity to position the camera head correctly. Basic computer and data entry skills. Physical Demands Medium physical requirements: lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally or frequently, standing, walking, and reaching frequently; repetitive motions, talking or hearing continuously; and occasional climbing or squatting.
