Social Worker

Summary The Social Worker is a Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MH RRTP) Transitional Care Manager. Primary responsibilities include providing a full range of direct patient care services to MH RRTP Veterans with diagnoses of Substance Use Disorders, Mental Health Disorders, and psychosocial issues such as homelessness. Qualifications Basic Requirements United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited as required by VA policy) Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE‑accredited school of social work Graduates of schools in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until full accreditation is achieved Doctoral degree in social work is not a substitute for the master’s degree Verification of credentials may be done via the CSWE accreditation list Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s level State requirements may be found at the provided VHA address Licensure may be waived for GS‑9 level candidates pending completion of state prerequisites; GS‑11 and above require licensure Unlicensed candidates will receive written requirements for licensure, including deadlines Grandfathering provisions apply only to current VHA employees meeting specific criteria Experience: GS‑09 requires evidence of at least one year of post‑MSW experience equivalent to the GS‑9 grade level in health care or related settings; GS‑11 may accept a doctoral degree in lieu of one year of experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Veteran‑centric interventions; psychosocial assessment and treatment planning; crisis intervention; effective relationship building; fundamental knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses and treatments; ability to coordinate community resources and referrals; ability to provide consultation to staff and trainees Physical Requirements: Sedentary and ambulatory duties; light lifting ( Duties Provide direct patient care services, including individual and group psychotherapy, psychoeducation, assessment, diagnosis, family/couples therapy, and case management Engage in psychosocial and diagnostic assessments; establish therapeutic rapport; administer interventions; ensure continuity of care Develop proactive, resourceful discharge planning and coordinate timely discharge of Veteran clients Contribute to multidisciplinary treatment teams to deliver comprehensive services Utilize VA and community agencies to facilitate treatment, discharge planning, and continuity of care, including referrals to VA and community programs as needed Maintain regular contact with VA and community agencies, enhancing coordination of patient care and problem resolution Participate in team meetings, unit huddles, treatment planning conferences, and other assigned meetings Document in electronic health records per VHA directives and policies Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm Compensation: Competitive salary with regular increases; potential higher step rates after evaluation of qualifications or special needs Paid time off: 37–50 days per year (includes annual leave, sick leave, and federal holidays); parental leave: up to 12 weeks paid after 12 months of employment; childcare subsidy: up to 25% of eligible costs for eligible families Retirement benefits: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% employer contribution Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care (many programs transferable to retirement) Telework: Not available; position is on-site only Functional Statement #: 93117A (GS‑09) and 93118A (GS‑11) #J-18808-Ljbffr U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
