Consultant Radiologist – Chest, Cardiac, Nuclear, Head and Neck Imaging Job Overview We are seeking a Substantive Consultant Radiologist with a sub‑speciality interest in Chest and Cardiac imaging and Head & Neck Imaging, including in‑post training in Nuclear Medicine. This is a permanent full‑time contract of 10 sessions per week, covering diagnostic on‑call duties. The post is part of the Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with a salary range of £113,565 – £150,569 per annum (Grade YM 72). Interviews will take place on Friday 10 July 2026. Main Duties Maintain and expand the department workload, supporting multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings. Meet waiting‑list targets and enable the introduction of extended working hours. Contribute to the general workload and participate in the on‑call rota (currently 1 in 20). Provide diagnostic general on‑call service, including weekday and weekend coverage. Support the Skin Cancer service through nuclear medicine reporting. Engage in audit, research and teaching activities as part of annual appraisal. Person Specification Full GMC registration. On the Specialist Register or within six months of receiving a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at interview. MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification. FRCR or equivalent radiology qualification. Knowledge & Experience Extensive clinical radiology training and experience. Emergency imaging and on‑call experience. Proficiency in CT‑guided lung biopsies and ultrasound‑guided head & neck procedures. Ability to supervise and report cardiac CTs and general X‑ray, US, CT and MRI imaging. Familiarity with PACS and related IT systems. Evidence of teaching within the last three years. Experience in supervising junior medical staff. Robust audit or research activity within the last three years. Exposure to general nuclear medicine reporting. Understanding of appraisal and assessment of radiology trainees. Other Skills Clear written and spoken communication with the capacity to adapt language appropriately. Build rapport, listen, persuade and negotiate effectively. Logical and lateral thinking to solve problems and make decisions. Work effectively with others in multi‑professional teams. Manage and prioritise time, information and work under pressure.
