Company Description Cylburn Arboretum Friends is a non-profit organization that has partnered with the City of Baltimore since 1954 to care for the grounds and gardens at Cylburn Arboretum. The organization focuses on preserving and enhancing this public green space for the Baltimore community. Through hands-on stewardship, Cylburn Arboretum Friends supports healthy landscapes, native plants, and sustainable garden practices. The organization also provides educational programming that connects visitors of all ages with nature, horticulture, and environmental awareness. Interns join a mission-driven team dedicated to maintaining a vibrant urban oasis and offering meaningful learning experiences. Role Description Cylburn Arboretum Friends is seeking an individual interested in gaining hands-on experience in the field of public horticulture, learning professional gardening skills, and developing a deeper understanding of public garden management. The successful candidate will work alongside Cylburn Arboretum’s head gardener and staff in the Arboretum’s horticultural zone, assisting with the care of specimen tree collections, perennial gardens, and other landscaped areas. Responsibilities will include practicing Integrated Pest Management (IPM), performing seasonal garden maintenance, and contributing to landscape design projects. Interaction with volunteers and the public is part of the role. This paid position is sponsored by Cylburn Arboretum Friends, the Horticultural Society of Maryland, and the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland. Qualifications Ability to perform hands-on tasks, including planting, pruning, and general grounds care. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, lift and carry materials, and perform physical tasks safely. Strong reliability, teamwork, and communication skills, with the ability to follow directions and work independently when needed. Priority will be given to applicants pursuing (or having recently completed) a degree in horticulture, landscape architecture, or a related field.
