Sr Software Dev Engineer, AWS Invoicing Global Tax & Compliance

We are seeking a Lead Engineer to own the technical vision and delivery of AWS's Tax Platform— handles tax calculation for AWS and its customers as well as on behalf the customers (marketplace sellers, other tenants) with multi-jurisdiction compliance configuration. This role is responsible for transforming a critical billing infrastructure component into a scalable, multi-tenant platform that supports complex enterprise customers with global tax obligations across multiple entities and jurisdictions. You will lead architecture decisions, drive engineering execution, and partner closely with product, tax compliance, and dependent platform teams to deliver capabilities that directly unblock AWS's largest strategic customers and international expansion.Key job responsibilitiesTechnical leadership and architecture: Own the system design and long-term technical vision for Tax Platform, evolving it from single-tenant storage to a multi-tenant, multi-jurisdiction platform supporting complex enterprise configurations for both native and on behalf of tax calculation.Multi-tenant-jurisdiction capability delivery: Design and deliver features for multi-tenant tax engine, jurisdiction-specific tax configurations.Platform abstraction design: Build scalable APIs and data models that decouple tax platform from specific tenants or use cases—enabling downstream services (invoice generation, e-invoicing clearance and delivery) to consume Tax as a Service.Cross-team technical integration: Partner with Control Plane, Invoice Configuration and Marketplace teams to define interfaces, resolve dependency bottlenecks, and ensure Tax Platform capabilities ship ahead of downstream consumers' timelines.Engineering excellence: Establish technical standards for the team including code quality, operational readiness, testing strategy, and scalability patterns. Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar.Operational ownership: Ensure Tax Services operates with high availability and low-latency at scale, owning operational metrics, on-call excellence, and incident response for a system that sits in the critical path of billing.Technical debt reduction: Identify and systematically retire country-specific implementations in favor of generalized, configurable solutions that reduce per-country engineering effort.Basic qualifications- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering teamPreferred qualification - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalentAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
