UNIT CLERK

Overview The Unit Clerk performs a variety of clerical duties, which provide support to nursing staff, physicians, and other members of the patient care units. Responsibilities Maintains an effective and efficient flow of information by responding to customer requests and through coordination of interdepartmental communications. Answers patient call system promptly, decides priority for responses, and immediately notifies appropriate personnel. Answers telephones, routing calls and conveying messages, and places calls appropriately within the scope of their authority. Works directly with the Nurse Manager/designee in coordinating patient flow, communications, maintenance of records. Assists with traffic control and necessary communication. Adheres to policies related to patient confidentiality and information. Facilitates patient admission, transfers and discharges through Nursing Patient Access and Housekeeping departments, including setting up and breaking down patient charts, and completing chart abstracts. Enters physicians' orders into the computer system. Enters orders accurately (desired Admissions). Ensures census reports are updated throughout work shift. Experience Required: Less than one year experience; basic employment skills; computer skills; standard office equipment skills. Education Preferred: High School / GED. Licenses And Certification Preferred - Medical Terminology Certification.
