Environmental Compliance Scientist

HNTB is seeking an experienced environmental compliance specialist to join our growing Environmental team within our NY Planning & Environment Department. This role would support our clients with regulatory needs for a variety of local, state and federal clients. The successful applicant will have a working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, environmental permitting, and strong technical writing capabilities.**What You'll Do:*** Conducts research, gathers scientific information and data, and leads field investigations among other supporting activities.* Determines or develops best methodology and technical approaches for conducting analysis in field work; sets up test equipment as necessary to obtain scientific data.* Using established prescribed templates, prepares data analysis, modeling, written reports, maps, etc. as appropriate to support findings as it pertains to the natural or man-made environment in the study area.* Reviews and evaluates technical reports and plans of scientific aspects of proposed projects for the environmental review of projects including permitting, and development of mitigation plans.* Examines and evaluates present and future potential environmental science effects relating to the planning, design, and construction of proposed projects.* Serves as task lead or principal author in the preparation of reports, graphs, and diagrams on scientific aspects relating to specific projects.* Provides technical support to project managers as situations arise during the construction of project that require scientific assistance.* Supports the marketing efforts as assigned.* Schedules of new and on-going projects.* Prepares permits for public and private clients with respect to acquisition and compliance for wetland impacts, bridge construction, and/or threatened/endangered species.* Assists in organizing, preparation of public meetings.* Attends various meetings with clients, other engineering firms, and staff.* Performs other duties as assigned.**What You'll Need:*** Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology or related field and 4 years relevant experience, or* Master's Degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology or related field and 3 years of relevant experience**What You'll Bring:*** Experience with state and local permitting and regulations, including NYSDEC, NYSDOL and NYCDEP.* Experience with federal environmental permitting, including USACE.* Provide technical expertise, oversite and quality control for environmental permitting and compliance projects related to silica, air quality, noise monitoring, sewer discharge, stormwater, hazardous waste, and waste materials management.* Competency in environmental regulatory programs including NYSDEC DER-10, NYCDEP/NYSDEC SWPPP, and Local Law 72.* Experience with air quality monitoring, including preparing community air quality reports, dust emissions monitoring.* Excellent project management skills and client-facing experience.* Highly collaborative, positive and proactive communication skills.* Generates original ideas, data, and methodologies tailored to specific conditions or projects.* Supports marketing and proposal efforts (i.e., serving as lead author for sections of proposals).* Serves as the field investigator who organizes fields crews, determines methodologies, and guides work to be completed by less experienced staff.* Prepares, reviews and evaluates health and safety plans.* Prepares and performs environmental compliance monitoring.* Serves as a reviewer of others analysis in sections of technical reports and providing guidance to less-experienced staff.* Prepares technical reports for submission to regulatory agencies and for internal use* Possesses knowledge to gain an advanced certification in established analytical methods with extensive experience in their application.**What We Prefer:*** Experience with NYSDOT, NYCDOT, MTA, NJT, NYCDEP, NYCDDC, PANJ&NJ, and Amtrak projects.* Professional certifications or ability to obtain professional certification within 2 years (e.g. QEP, CHMM, PE, CEP, PG, CESCP).**Additional Information**Click here for benefits information:Click here to learn more aboutVisa sponsorship is not available for this position.#AS #EnvironmentalPlanning.Locations:New York, NY.The approximate pay range for New York is $74,417.85 - $139,533.46.
