Lead Superintendent SPD

The Lead Superintendent SPD is responsible for leading all field operations on assigned Special Projects from project startup through final completion. This position oversees field personnel, coordinates project execution, maintains safety and quality standards, and ensures projects are completed in accordance with contract requirements, production goals, schedules, and company expectations. In addition to managing assigned projects, the Lead Superintendent serves as a senior field resource within the Special Projects Department by providing technical leadership, mentoring field personnel, assisting with manpower planning, supporting project startup activities, and promoting consistency in field operations across Special Projects. The Lead Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, customers, General Contractors, subcontractors, Safety, QA/QC, Drafting, and company leadership to successfully execute projects while maintaining Kovach's commitment to safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Development Lead all field operations on assigned projects from mobilization through closeout. Direct, mentor, coach, and hold accountable Foremen, Leadmen, and assigned field personnel. Promote Kovach's Core Values through professional leadership and positive employee engagement. Foster teamwork, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement throughout assigned crews. Identify employee development opportunities and provide ongoing coaching and training. Assist with onboarding and mentoring newly hired Superintendents, Foremen, and field employees. Share technical knowledge and best practices to improve consistency across the Special Projects Department. Assist management with evaluating field performance and identifying future leaders. Project Planning & Execution Participate in project kickoff meetings, preconstruction meetings, preinstallation meetings, project status reviews, and coordination meetings. Develop project mobilization plans and identify potential risks before work begins. Coordinate field activities with Project Managers to support project schedules and production objectives. Plan and coordinate manpower requirements for assigned projects. Assist department leadership in forecasting manpower needs and identifying staffing conflicts. Coordinate project logistics, material staging, equipment needs, deliveries, and site access. Review project drawings, specifications, shop drawings, RFIs, and project documents before installation. Verify field dimensions and site readiness prior to fabrication or installation activities. Monitor project progress and proactively address schedule impacts or productivity concerns. Assist with startup planning on complex or high-priority projects. Operational Performance Monitor daily production, labor utilization, installation progress, and crew performance. Hold Foremen accountable for production goals, schedule commitments, and quality expectations. Identify production issues early and implement corrective action plans. Support implementation of department productivity initiatives and operational improvements. Ensure field work complies with approved drawings, specifications, installation requirements, and company standards. Assist in resolving complex field issues requiring advanced technical or operational expertise. Reporting & Documentation Ensure Daily Reports, Weekly Status Reports, timecards, manpower reports, and project documentation are completed accurately and timely. Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Document field issues, delays, drawing discrepancies, safety concerns, and production impacts. Track project progress and communicate risks to Project Management and department leadership. Maintain accurate project records utilizing company software and reporting systems. Material & Equipment Coordination Verify deliveries, material quantities, staging locations, storage conditions, and material protection. Coordinate field measurements to support fabrication and installation. Monitor material shortages and communicate risks before production is impacted. Coordinate equipment scheduling and utilization to maximize efficiency. Assist with field logistics planning to maintain productive workflow. Safety Promote a culture where safety is the highest priority. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, customer requirements, and site‑specific safety plans. Conduct routine jobsite safety observations. Identify unsafe conditions and implement immediate corrective actions. Report incidents, injuries, and near‑misses promptly. Participate in incident investigations and corrective action planning. Ensure required safety documentation remains current and accessible. Quality Assurance Ensure all installations comply with project specifications, approved shop drawings, manufacturer requirements, and Kovach quality standards. Perform routine quality inspections throughout construction. Coordinate correction of installation deficiencies. Support constructability reviews and resolution of field conflicts. Assist with punch list completion and project closeout activities. Communication & Customer Relations Serve as the primary field representative for assigned projects. Maintain productive working relationships with General Contractors, owners, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers. Communicate project status, manpower needs, schedule concerns, and operational issues to Project Management and department leadership. Coordinate daily activities among field personnel and project stakeholders. Promote exceptional customer service and professionalism at all times. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, quality, scheduling, and operational efficiency. Assist with development of standardized field procedures and best practices. Recommend process improvements that enhance project execution. Participate in department initiatives supporting operational excellence.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education High school diploma or GED required. Postsecondary education in Construction Management or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum of seven (7) years of commercial construction field experience. Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Superintendent or in a comparable field leadership role. Demonstrated experience leading multiple field crews and coordinating commercial construction projects. Experience with specialty construction, renovations, tenant improvements, occupied facilities, or fast‑track commercial construction preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of commercial construction practices, sequencing, and installation methods. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, schedules, and contracts. Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills. Excellent organizational, planning, and problem‑solving abilities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and changing priorities. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions in dynamic field environments. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 30 Certification. CPR/First Aid Certification. Bilingual English/Spanish. Experience utilizing Autodesk Build, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction management platforms.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed primarily on active commercial construction sites. The employee is regularly exposed to: Outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and varying temperatures. Loud noise from construction equipment and power tools. Dust, airborne particles, and construction debris. Moving machinery and heavy equipment. Elevated work areas and fall hazards. Uneven walking surfaces and changing site conditions. Frequent interaction with multiple contractors and construction personnel.
