Job Summary and Qualifications

The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator works in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and Trauma Program Director (TPD) to coordinate all aspects of the Trauma Department's Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) Program. The Trauma PI Coordinator conducts performance reviews of the continuum of care from the prehospital setting to hospital discharge and determines compliance with patient care practice management guidelines, policies, procedures, and established standards of care. The Trauma PI Coordinator possesses in-depth knowledge of chart abstraction and the trauma registry, including reporting, data analysis, trend identification and benchmarking of outcomes based upon the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT), as well as state and regional standards and recommendations for quality and maintenance for trauma center verification/re-verification and local designation.

What you will do in this role:

• Has a working knowledge of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) inclusion criteria and reviews charts for all possible candidates and selects qualifying patients.
• Coordinates PIPS activities with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Director to facilitate overall Trauma Program quality assurance.
• Serves as a member of the Trauma Performance Improvement/Patient Safety (TPIPS) Committee and/or other committees as directed by the Trauma Program Director (TPD) or Trauma Medical Director (TMD).
• Maintains knowledge of current external and internal quality indicators and standards, including Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) and National Trauma Data Standards (NTDS).
• Reflects HCA values and sensitivity to ethics and compliance principles in his/her daily activities.

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
