Custom Product Project Manager (Tacoma, WA)
Frontier Door & Cabinet
Custom Product Project Manager – Build What Doesn’t Exist (Yet!) Are you the kind of person who looks at a space and instantly starts thinking, "How was this built—and how could it be better?" Do you thrive in the space between design vision and real-world execution? If so, we’ve got a role that will keep you energized, challenged, and constantly learning. We’re looking for a Custom Product Project Manager to lead the charge on one‑of‑a‑kind builds across high‑end environments—think stunning apartment common areas, cutting‑edge schools, sophisticated hospitals, luxury condos, boutique hotels, and standout restaurants. No two projects are the same, and that’s exactly the point. What You’ll Be Doing: Own projects from concept to completion—turning ideas into tangible, installable realities Collaborate with designers, fabricators, and field teams to bring custom elements to life Work across a wide range of materials: cabinetry, millwork, trim, metals, upholstery, and emerging materials Dive deep into project scope, site conditions, and constraints—then problem‑solve your way through them Evaluate buildability, installation methods, and long‑term performance Navigate the unexpected with confidence (because let’s be honest—custom work always has surprises) What Makes You a Great Fit: You’re curious, resourceful, and not afraid of a challenge You can balance big‑picture thinking with attention to detail You understand (or are eager to learn) how things are actually built and installed You communicate clearly across teams—from design visionaries to hands‑on installers You see industry knowledge not just as experience, but as a superpower What You’ll Get: The chance to work on visually striking, high‑impact projects A role where no two days—or builds—are the same Continuous learning and exposure to new materials and techniques A collaborative team that values problem‑solving and innovation If you’re ready to step into a role where you’ll stretch your skills, expand your knowledge, and help create spaces people remember—this is it. Let’s build something incredible. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage all phases of cabinet projects from initial contract through installation, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Attend and lead client meetings and pre‑construction discussions to define cabinet design intent, budget, scope, and project expectations. Evaluate cabinet drawings, layouts, and architectural plans to ensure alignment with project scope, building requirements, and client specifications. Serve as the technical expert on cabinet layouts, materials, finishes, and design intent. Review and manage all cabinet submittals, change orders, RFIs, and ASIs. Maintain full grasp of cabinet product lead times and communicate proactively with clients about material timelines and approval needs. Coordinate daily and long‑term project schedules, material lead times, and installation sequencing. Foster vendor relationships through consistent communication and expectation management. Manage project budgets to achieve profitability by tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), billing progress, and budget milestones throughout the project lifecycle. Communicate clearly with accounting and clients regarding billing, projections, and change order processing. Lead daily and weekly production coordination meetings with internal teams and subcontractors. Provide detailed shipping and staging instructions to internal logistics/shipping teams. Ensure cabinet products are delivered to the jobsite completed, labeled, and stocked correctly. Conduct regular site visits to verify measurements, monitor installation progress, ensure safety and quality compliance, and resolve any field‑related issues. Oversee and support field installation teams, including subcontractors. Identify and troubleshoot problems in cabinet production, delivery, or installation proactively. Ensure exceptional customer service by providing timely updates and solutions. Keep project documentation and management software up to date with current progress, cost tracking, and pending issues. Maintain consistent and dependable attendance, recognizing the need for flexibility and responsiveness in a fast‑paced environment. Mentor and develop junior project management staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team. This highlights a commitment to growing talent and building team capacity. Collaborate with senior management to contribute to the strategic direction of the cabinet project management function, identifying opportunities for process optimization and innovation. This emphasizes involvement in higher‑level planning and strategic thinking. Lead cross‑functional teams in the development and implementation of best practices for cabinet project execution, ensuring consistency and efficiency across all projects. This showcases the ability to influence and drive improvements beyond individual projects. Proactively identify and mitigate systemic risks across multiple projects, developing and implementing preventative strategies to minimize potential disruptions and ensure overall program success.
