General Maintenance Mechanic

Under general direction, the General Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance and repair on campus facilities and vehicles at a semi‑skilled to skilled level and performs related duties as required. Responsibilities Perform plumbing maintenance, repair, and installations (water heaters, drinking fountains, eye wash stations, faucets, fixtures, valves). Respond to leaks, sewer backups, and urgent plumbing issues. Replace faulty components such as heating elements, thermostats, and gas valves. Perform general maintenance on HVAC systems including troubleshooting, filter changes, coil cleaning, and belt replacements. Service and repair equipment such as exhaust fans, air handlers, and pumps. Assist in troubleshooting and repairing fire alarm systems, automatic and security doors. Troubleshoot, test, and repair electrical circuits up to 277 volts. Replace switches, receptacles, circuit breakers, lighting fixtures and components. Check water and irrigation pipes for leaks and pressure and repair as necessary. Repair and maintain pumps, piping, gaskets, strainers, and filters in swimming pools; monitor and maintain correct chemical balance of water. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on gasoline and diesel motor vehicles, motorized grounds equipment, and electric utility carts and vehicles; spot weld as necessary. Hang and repair doors; assemble and move furniture; service automatic openers; install and rekey locks. Build and repair wood or steel items such as partitions, counters, cabinets, shelves, frames, walls, and scaffolds. Paint interior and exterior surfaces of buildings; scrape and sand surfaces; repair plaster and other wall surfaces. Replace window glass. Lays, regrouts or repairs tile on floors, walls or countertops; lay carpet. Coordinate work with and assist other maintenance workers and vendors as required. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment including lighting, electrical components, plumbing parts and other materials. Respond to emergency calls to ensure the safety of systems and facilities. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience in a related field. High school diploma or equivalent. At least one (1) year of job‑related experience. Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment. Adapt to changing work priorities and meet deadlines and schedules. Demonstrated skill in building and repair of partitions, counters, shelves, etc.; painting and performing flooring work. Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair; operations and servicing of gasoline and diesel motor vehicles, motorized gardening equipment, electric carts and wheelchairs; procedures used to paint and install flooring. Special Conditions Working hours: Monday – Friday, 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Hours may vary according to assignment. A valid California driver’s license is required. Ability to pass a post‑offer, pre‑employment physical. Conditions of Employment This is a full‑time, 12‑month classified bargaining unit position. Starting date: as soon as possible.
