Thunder Bay Community Health Service, Inc. (TBCHS) is looking for a Hybrid Access Specialist/Medical Support Staff to join our team!
This unique position combines front-office patient access responsibilities with hands-on clinical support . Your day may look different depending on the needs of the health center—which means you'll have the opportunity to use a wide range of skills while supporting patients and your coworkers.
WHAT YOU'LL DOYou'll spend approximately 50% of your time in Access Specialist duties and 50% providing Medical Support , working wherever you're needed most.
ACCESS SPECIALIST – 50%Welcome patients and visitors with friendly, professional service.
Manage multi-line phone calls and help patients navigate their healthcare needs.
Schedule appointments and complete reminder/confirmation calls.
Triage urgent concerns within your scope of practice.
Verify insurance, update patient information, and assist with forms.
Collect co-pays, post payments, and balance daily collections.
Help patients learn about TBCHS services and resources, including insurance/Medicaid enrollment, sliding fee discounts, transportation assistance, dental, pharmacy, behavioral health, and more.
Maintain strict HIPAA compliance when handling patient information.
Assist with mail, office supplies, recall reports, and other daily operational needs.
Open and close the building according to established procedures.
Room patients and obtain vital signs, screenings, and medical histories.
Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
Prepare and maintain patient rooms and follow infection-control and sterile-technique protocols.
Administer medications, injections, and vaccines as directed.
Collect laboratory specimens and perform in-house laboratory testing according to CLIA guidelines.
Complete accurate EMR documentation for visits, procedures, tests, and patient communications.
Process medication refills according to established protocols.
Provide patient education as directed by the provider.
Maintain clinical supplies, inventory, and equipment.
Maintain competency with immunization documentation and the MCIR program.
Complete required patient consents and other clinical documentation.
Perform drug screen collections according to DOT/NDOT guidelines.

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or LPN program .
Eligible for certification/registration or licensure through CEU completion.
BLS certification required at hire.
Ability to meet the physical demands of a medium-duty position .
Site-to-site travel is required.
