Summary This WG-4749-05 Maintenance Worker position is a permanent, full-time appointment duty-stationed at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park in Hodgenville, KY. Responsibilities This WG-4749-05 Maintenance Worker will perform simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment, and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades. Provides routine maintenance on park facilities including minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work. Assist higher-graded maintenance employees in the performance of maintenance tasks. Safely and effectively, uses hand power tools required for the job and has the ability to maintain these tools properly. Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. DRIVER'S LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. TRAVEL: You may be required to travel overnight away from home on rare occasions for training or other purposes. You may be required to obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Able to perform common tasks associated with maintenance work including facility maintenance and repair of residential and commercial buildings including carpentry, painting, minor plumbing, and electrical work. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic). Additional Information AREA INFORMATION: This position is located at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park located in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Hodgenville is a small town of about 3,000 residents located in central, rural Kentucky. It is located approximately 45 miles south of Louisville Ky and 12 miles south of Elizabethtown, KY. The Park is made up of 2 Units separated by 10 miles: The Birthplace Unit features a memorial building with a symbolic log cabin and the Sinking Spring where the family drew water, while the Knob Creek site preserves the farm where Lincoln lived from ages 2 to 8, with trails and a historic tavern. Both sites are free to enter and offer visitor centers with exhibits and films about Lincoln's early life. Government / Park housing is not available for this position. A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected.
