HV SCADA Engineer

Salary: $96,160 - 120,200 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a closely related technical field is preferred.
• 2 to 4 years of SCADA engineering experience, with substation SCADA exposure preferred.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, communications schematics, and panel drawings.
• Working knowledge of power distribution protection equipment, such as protection relays and power meters.
• Experience coordinating with utility companies on demarcation points, interconnection agreements, and design compliance.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, or Structured Text (IEC 61131-3) is desired.
• Experience with SEL acSELerator RTAC and acSELerator Quickset software.
• Experience with Ignition SCADA or comparable HMI design platforms.
• Understanding of SCADA network design, installation, and commissioning using fiber optics, RS-232/RS-485 serial, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
• Experience with industry-recognized PLC platforms such as Schweitzer Engineering RTAC, Allen Bradley Control/CompactLogix, GE/Emerson RX3i, or similar environments.
• Basic PV solar monitoring experience is preferred but not required; related technical experience will be considered.
• Understanding of industrial automation protocols, including Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA, and OPC DA.
• Knowledge of power plant operating procedures.
• Ability to work effectively with subcontractors and field personnel.
• Experience using project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
• Strong communication skills.

• Review and interpret SCADA requirements for substations supporting utility-scale renewable projects, including solar PV, battery storage, and wind.
• Support the development of HV SCADA designs and drawings to align with project specifications.
• Check substation point lists for accuracy against relay and meter setting files.
• Program and commission substation RTACs, phasor data concentrators, and HMI systems.
• Coordinate network configurations and IP assignments for substation equipment with the plant network provider.
• Troubleshoot communications problems between substation devices and connected controllers.
• Provide technical support across a range of substation equipment configurations.
• Communicate with customers, vendors, and field technicians to support on-site commissioning and installation.
• Compare project drawings with site conditions to verify the installation is correct.
• Travel as required, with roughly 20% of duties performed onsite.
• Learn and apply the software and hardware used and supported by our organization.
• Partner with project management to report status, risks, and mitigation actions.
• Promote and follow a culture of NERC compliance and governance in programming, commissioning, documentation, reporting, knowledge transfer, and training.
• Share feedback with product development teams to help improve our SCADA platform.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following and enforcing company and industry safety standards.
