Cable Assembly Technician

This role focuses on building custom cable assemblies in a growing cable cell using a batching method, where each team member performs specialized tasks such as cutting, stripping, crimping, or soldering wires before passing them to the next station. You will work with both manual tools and small machines, rotate regularly through different stations, and contribute to the production of high-quality medical-related cable assemblies in a clean, comfortable, and well-organized environment.

Responsibilities

• Build cables from scratch using established processes, tools, and documentation.
• Rotate through cable cell stations, including cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering, based on training and certification.
• Perform wire cutting and wire stripping using both manual methods and small machines, following standard operating procedures.
• Crimp terminals and connectors accurately to ensure secure and reliable cable connections.
• Conduct soldering work once IPC-610 or IPC-620 certification is obtained or if you already hold a current solder certification.
• Carry out mechanical assembly tasks, including the use of hand tools and torque wrenches, to assemble components and subassemblies.
• Perform electronic assembly work, ensuring proper handling of components and adherence to ESD and quality requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints, travelers, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to complete assignments correctly and efficiently.
• Document work performed accurately, including recording production data and following all documentation requirements.
• Use computers to access work instructions, travelers, and other production-related information.
• Follow all quality standards and regulatory guidelines related to building medical instruments and cable harnesses.
• Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure cables and assemblies meet all specifications and quality expectations.
• Participate in a structured training program, including working from training binders and applying feedback provided in real time.
• Support a fast-paced production environment by meeting productivity goals while maintaining quality.
• Adhere to all safety, ESD, and workplace conduct rules, including appropriate use of PPE and limited personal phone usage.

Essential Skills

• Experience with cable or wire work, such as wire cutting, wire stripping, cable harness assembly, or cable crimping.
• Hands-on experience with crimping tools and techniques for cable and wire assemblies.
• Ability to perform or learn soldering for cable and electronic assemblies, with willingness to obtain IPC-610 or IPC-620 certification if not already certified.
• Familiarity with medical or electronic assembly environments, including working with small components and regulated processes.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, travelers, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Comfort using hand tools and torque wrenches for mechanical and electronic assembly tasks.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to specifications.
• Basic computer skills to navigate digital work instructions and documentation.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based production setting.
• Willingness to support occasional overtime, including up to two Saturdays per month or schedule changes to a MondayThursday model as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• IPC-610 or IPC-620 soldering certification preferred but not required; the company will support training and certification.
• Prior experience in medical device assembly or regulated manufacturing environments is a plus.
• Experience working in cable cells or batch-style production environments is beneficial.
• Comfort working with both manual tools and small automated machines at different stations.
• Ability to adapt to rotating tasks and learn multiple stations within the cable cell.
• Strong communication skills to receive and apply real-time feedback during training.

Work Environment

The work environment is a very clean, comfortable, and well-lit facility focused on building medical instruments in a regulated but non-clean-room setting. The cable cell operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of occasional overtime, including up to two Saturdays per month or a shift to a MondayThursday schedule if implemented. The space is temperature-controlled, and the only required personal protective equipment is an ESD smock. Employees may wear headphones while working, supporting concentration and a relaxed atmosphere, but phone usage is strictly limited during work time. Dress code is casual and professional, allowing jeans and a collared shirt. The facility features modern, fully renovated break areas with comfortable seating and recreational options such as shuffleboard, dart boards, foosball tables, and access to canteen vending, coffee, and snacks, creating a comfortable and engaging workplace.
