JOB DESCRIPTION
County-Wide Custodian Floor Wax/Cleaning Crew
(Summer Service Extra-Curricular Position)
A. Job Summary Custodian Floor Wax/Cleaning Crew: This work is done in a
school or district building environment and may include solvent or cleaning
smells. On feet all day, with bending, lifting, standing, twisting, walking,
kneeling. Must be able to lift up to 100 pound loads on occasion, and 50
pound loads repeatedly throughout the day.
B. Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED required
2. Personnel must be or have been classified as a custodian, or must pass the
competency exam (demonstrate skill in use of machines/ equipment) for
this position in accordance with WV State Code §18A-4-8e.
3. Physical strength, dexterity, and the ability to do manual labor.
4. Valid West Virginia Driver's License.
5. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform
each essential duty satisfactorily.
C. Expectations / Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Must be a responsible person with a general knowledge of Custodian
waxing and cleaning.
2. Be capable of performing semi-skilled and some skilled work of ordinary
difficulty requiring the use of cleaning equipment, or the operation of
mechanical equipment.
3. Perform heavy physical labor.
4. Squatting: picking up items from the floor
5. Operate Floor scrubber: 110 pounds (2-person lift)
6. Operate Multi-purpose vacuum: 47 pounds, carried up the stairs.
7. Operate Wet/dry vacuum: 100 pounds pulled up the stairs, dry; 130
pounds, wet (not pulled up the stairs)
8. Use Mop and bucket (dry): 25 pounds carried up the stairs.
9. Move Desk: 40 pounds, 29 inches to 43 inches vertical lift.
10. Move 5-gallon bucket of wax: One bucket: 21 inches to 29 inches vertical
lift. Two buckets: 90 pounds, carried upstairs; one in each hand. Three
buckets: 135 pounds pulled up stairs on a hand-truck.
11.Work as a team removing all classroom items to properly clean and wax all
rooms.
12.Adheres to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
13.Perform Other Job-Related Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned by the
Director of Maintenance.

E. Terms of Employment:
1. Summer employment term will be identified in the associated job posting.

3. Daily work hours will be identified in the associated job posting.
4. Employee work locations may vary based on need (county-wide).
5. LCBOE Schedule #17 Level XIV- Service "Posted" Supplemental or Extra
Curricular rate of pay shall be $20.00 per hour. See LCSD Policy 6700
"Overtime", for computation of overtime pay in excess of the 40 hour
work week; FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.
F. Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the
immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV
State Board Policy 5314, and Lincoln County Schools Policy 6700.
G. Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of
those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of
this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works
outdoors or indoors as needed. The employee will work near or with moving
mechanical equipment while performing the duties of this job. The employee
will work around hazardous materials such as Floor Cleaning Chemicals, etc.
The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate, due to the use of
Cleaning equipment.
