Registered Nurse RN General Pediatrics

Overview Registered Nurse position in a 36‑bed General Pediatrics Unit at Banner University Medical Center–Tucson, a Level1 Trauma and Academic Medical Center in Southern Arizona. The role will involve 3–12 hour day shifts (7:00AM–7:30PM) with shift and weekend differentials and the use of a self‑scheduling tool. Position Summary This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and nursing practice standards. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by themselves or by staff under their direction. Core Functions Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs, review history and physical, diagnostics, laboratory data, and report abnormal results to physicians or appropriate caregivers. Formulate a plan of care, including a realistic, measurable discharge plan, incorporating patient, family, and interdisciplinary team input, and revise it as patient needs change. Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health‑care team, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, and revise the plan of care as needed to achieve goals and expected outcomes. Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and policy compliance. Provide evidence‑based care and may participate in research, shared leadership, education, and orientation activities for facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Contribute to society by participating in activities that enhance patient outcomes, such as quality improvement initiatives and professional organizations. In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department. Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts, including community providers, agencies, and clergy to support patient care and spiritual needs. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, or temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure. BLS certification required; additional certifications may be required based on area of practice. Experience in acute‑care or specialty area (minimum of one year in an acute‑care hospital setting within the past 12 months). For Behavioral Health roles: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Criminal History Affidavit at hire and throughout employment. For Home Health or Pharmacy positions: valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and active auto insurance coverage. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of practice through annual validations. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred.
