Job Title: Major & Planned Giving Manager Department: Development Reports to: Senior Director of Development Salary: $85,000-$100,000 FLSA Classification: Exempt Job Description Under the supervision of the Sr. Director of Development, the Major & Planned Giving Manager leads Long Island Cares’ major gifts and planned giving program while building the philanthropic infrastructure needed to support future comprehensive and capital campaigns. The Manager manages a portfolio of approximately 125–150 current and prospective donors capable of making gifts of $10,000 or more and develops strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward significant philanthropic support. Working closely with the President & CEO, Senior Director of Development, Board of Directors, and Development team, the Manager serves as the organization’s lead strategist for individual philanthropy, expanding major and planned giving while strengthening donor engagement and campaign readiness. As a member of the Development leadership team, this position plays a critical role in growing philanthropic support and advancing Long Island Cares’ long‑term strategic priorities. Essential Functions Develop and implement Long Island Cares’ major gifts and planned giving strategy to support annual fundraising goals and long-term organizational priorities. Manage a portfolio of approximately 125-150 major donor prospects and supporters, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts of $10,000 and above. Develop and execute individualized donor engagement strategies, including cultivation, proposals, stewardship, and recognition. Build the donor pipeline and relationships necessary to support future comprehensive and capital campaigns. Partner with the President & CEO, Senior Director of Development, Board members, and volunteers to develop solicitation strategies and prepare donor briefings, proposals, and other fundraising materials. Utilize donor research, wealth screening, and analytics to identify prospects, strengthen fundraising performance, and manage portfolio activity. Maintain accurate donor records, moves management activity, and portfolio metrics within the donor database. Collaborate with Development, Marketing & Communications, and other departments to coordinate fundraising strategies and donor communications. Represent Long Island Cares at donor meetings, community events, networking opportunities, and professional organizations. Contribute to the execution of the annual Development Plan and perform other related duties as assigned. Demonstrate Long Island Cares’ Mission, Vision, and Values in all interactions. Required Skills & Abilities Proven success building relationships with high-capacity donors and securing major gifts through relationship-centered fundraising. Strong strategic planning, donor portfolio management, and prospect development skills. Knowledge of charitable giving strategies, planned giving vehicles, philanthropic trends, and general tax considerations related to charitable giving. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with executive leadership, Board members, volunteers, and community partners. Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage multiple priorities independently. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and donor CRM systems, preferably DonorPerfect. Ability to travel locally and attend occasional evening and weekend meetings and events. Valid NYS driver’s license required. Education & Experience Minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible fundraising experience with demonstrated success in major gifts. Proven track record securing five- and six-figure gifts; experience with seven-figure gifts preferred. Experience managing a personal donor portfolio. Experience with planned giving preferred. Experience supporting campaign fundraising or capital campaigns strongly preferred. Experience partnering with executive leadership and volunteer leadership. Experience using donor research and wealth screening tools. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
