Utility Civil Engineer

Lombard, ILPower Delivery Engineering – Power Delivery Engineering /Full Time /HybridSeasoned Utility Civil Engineer experienced in civil and electrical design for utility and substation projects, including site plans, grading and drainage, foundations, electrical plans and sections, grounding, and equipment specifications. Knowledge of transformers, breakers, disconnects, arresters, CTs/PTs, control houses, and related civil infrastructure. Interfaces with clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams and may visit job sites as required.ResponsibilitiesStrong knowledge of utility engineering, including electrical power delivery and civil engineering, with the ability to lead, mentor, and support junior staff while delivering projects on time and within budgetPrepare multidisciplinary design packages including one-lines, site plans, electrical plans/sections, conduit and grounding plans, civil grading/drainage plans, foundations, and bills of materialsCoordinate high-voltage substation physical design, including equipment layouts, foundations, grounding, conduit/cable routing, duct banks, and associated civil infrastructurePerform and/or oversee AC/DC load calculations, cable routing, grounding, civil/site design, and other engineering calculationsFamiliarity with protection and controls, utility interfaces, and power delivery systemsCoordinate engineering and drafting activities across electrical, civil, structural, and other disciplines to develop complete and constructible drawingsCoordinate with clients, utility representatives, contractors, and other discipline engineers, including on-site coordination and field supportMaintain positive client relationships and provide technical leadership, design review, and mentoring throughout the project lifecycleSite DutiesPhysical design of utility substations and associated civil infrastructureEquipment selection, specifications, and civil/structural requirementsBills of materialsSite plans, grading/drainage, plans/sections, foundations, conduit, and groundingControl building and panel hardware specificationsCoordinate design activities with electrical, civil, structural, and other disciplinesDevelop civil and electrical construction details and support constructability reviewsDevelop sequence of construction identifying pre-outage work and civil/electrical construction activitiesTechnical CompetenciesAbility to communicate complex electrical and civil engineering issues in a clear, concise mannerAbility to multi-task and manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyStrong verbal and written communication skillsProficiency with SKM electrical modeling software and familiarity with applicable civil design toolsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline3+ years of experience in utility, substation, power delivery, or civil infrastructure designExperience with multidisciplinary substation design preferredExceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skillsMust be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship$1 - $2 a yearSalaries for all positions are based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, total years of experience in the industry, education, skills, and qualifications.
