Overhead Crew - All Positions (Foreman/A, B , C Lineman/Operator/Groundman

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks entire Overhead crews (Foreman / A Lineman / B Lineman / C Lineman / Operator / Groundman). Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who can bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews. Foreman Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to linemen, apprentices and groundmen performing maintenance & construction on electrical distribution projects. Coordinate essential personnel on‑site and manage crew mobilization. Communicate, demonstrate and enforce safety requirements and best practices. Comfortable using new technologies (mobile devices/apps) and willing to learn. Manage supplies, materials and equipment. Assist with planning, directing and budgeting for pole line construction and related projects. Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings and scopes of work. Communicate with general foremen, superintendents, construction managers, project managers and other personnel. Follow detailed construction schedules. Possess a high school diploma or equivalency. Read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints. Coordinate & collaborate with multiple levels within the company. Willing to travel and work away from home. Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers and groundwork with utility crews. Ability to work at heights up to and above 60 feet (preferred). Communicate effectively, demonstrate teamwork skills and follow directions. Maintain a strong work ethic and commitment to customer service. A Lineman Perform rigorous physical labor including climbing, rigging, lifting, rescue operations. Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. Proficient in energized line work and handling inductive voltage. Interact professionally with crew members, the public and customers. Read blueprints and sag wire properly. Lead crew in assembly and erection of structures to all heights with minimal supervision. Execute hot line work and handle bucket trucks, digger derricks, backhoes. Operate bucket trucks, knuckle cranes and other heavy equipment. Climb structures and use handlines safely. Understand phase‑out procedures and use phasing sticks correctly. Plan safe work based on job print or work order. Obtain a “one‑shot” on a recloser. Follow minimum approach distances, flag and tag procedures. Perform basic bucket rescue and escape. Lead a Job Task Safety Analysis meeting or tailgate briefing. Install and remove mechanical jumpers, inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE. B Lineman Work safely on energized and de‑energized conductors, including new construction, maintenance and repair. Set poles and anchors according to safety policies and specifications. Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools. Perform rigorous physical labor and learn distribution voltages. Understand induced voltage and read blueprints. Assist with inspecting structural problems, troubleshooting and assembly. Work productively from aerial devices and independently on de‑energized lines. Know wire stringing techniques, sag wire from structures or bucket. Assist in framing basic line structures and compressed connections. Work at heights and confined spaces, wear PPE. Inspect rubber goods, covers, PPE. Climb structures, tie lineman knots and use handlines. Follow grounding procedures, equipment set‑up principles, minimum approach distances, flag and tag procedures. Perform basic bucket rescue and escape. C Lineman Maintain active enrollment in the SUI apprenticeship program (high school diploma or equivalent required). Set poles and anchors per safety policies and specifications. Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools. Perform rigorous physical labor, learn distribution voltages. Understand induced voltage, read blueprints. Assist with inspecting structural problems, troubleshoot, and frame line structures. Work productively from aerial devices, independently on de‑energized lines. Know wire stringing, sag wire, framing, compression connections. Work at heights, confined spaces, wear PPE, inspect rubber goods, covers, PPE. Climb structures, tie knots, use handlines. Follow grounding, equipment set‑up principles, minimum approach distances, flag and tag procedures. Perform basic bucket rescue and escape. Equipment Operator Operate heavy equipment such as line/bucket trucks, knuckle cranes, digger derricks. Perform safe construction, maintenance and repair of energized and de‑energized overhead lines. Show professional demeanor among crew, public and customers. Apply basic techniques for stringing overhead wire and setting poles/anchors. Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools. Perform rigorous physical labor, work in teams and follow directions. Understand rigging principles and hand tools maintenance. Follow equipment setup and grounding basics. Work at heights and confined spaces; follow minimum approach distances, flag and tag procedures. Use handlines, inspect rubber goods, covers, PPE. Perform basic bucket rescue and escape. Groundman Perform manual tasks in construction and maintenance of overhead power lines. Interpret and follow directions from foreman and senior crew members. Apply safety, first aid and job‑specific training. Perform rigorous physical labor in outdoor weather conditions. Show professional appearance and attitude toward coworkers, customers and subcontractors. Assemble materials on the ground and hoist them into the work area using handlines. Assist crew in digging/filling pole holes and trenches. Flag traffic and set up job sites per directions. Maintain organization of tools and materials on work vehicles. Set up, clean up and organize job sites. Potential training in operation of vehicles and light equipment. The employee is required to sit; frequently climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or maneuver up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or maneuver up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work is primarily performed outdoors so physical exposure to often extreme weather conditions, animals and insects and other outdoor hazards is unavoidable and required.
