The Certified Orthotist will provide comprehensive orthotic care based on the physicians prescription and an individualized treatment plan. Responsibilities include patient assessment, development of a treatment strategy, selection and design of orthotic devices, measurement and impression-taking, device fabrication or oversight, fitting, alignment, adjustment, and ongoing follow-up to optimize function, mobility, and patient outcomes for inpatient and outpatient.
Responsibilities
Manage an orthotic patient caseload; document care and participate in multidisciplinary case reviews.
Serve as a liaison with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other health professionals to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care.
Evaluate patient needs, develop treatment goals, and formulate an orthotic plan focused on stability, mobility, pain reduction, function, and alignment.
Select appropriate materials, components, and designs for each orthosis to ensure optimal outcome.
Explain the treatment plan, benefits, risks, timelines, and device care to patients and families
Address questions and concerns.
Oversee patient preparation, measurement, impression-taking, and fitting procedures.
Supervise device fabrication and ensure precise alignment and fit for maximum function and comfort.
Provide instruction on use, care, and maintenance of orthotic devices.
Provide ongoing follow-up, including assessment, adjustment, and modification of orthoses as needed.
Supervise and collaborate with assigned orthotic technicians and support staff.
Ensure compliance with clinical, safety, ethical, and legal standards of care per MTF policies and Joint Commission guidelines.
Evaluate, Design, fabricate, fit and maintain unique complex custom orthotic devices
Ensure they meet the medical, functional, and rehabilitative needs of patients with diverse conditions.
Provide hands-on care for active-duty personnel, retirees, dependents, and children, many of whom have sustained life-altering injuries in combat or other high-risk situations.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including surgeons, physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapist, and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal outcomes for patients.
Provide SME level care in specialty clinic for designing orthoses to return function and mobility to our most injured patients through the Peripheral Nerve Clinic and Complex Orthotics Clinic.
Educate patients on the use, maintenance, and care of their orthotic devices, counseling patients and their families on treatment options, and providing follow-up care as needed.
Contribute to the development of treatment plans, providing expert input to the care team, and ensuring that orthotic devices are tailored to meet both clinical and functional goals to return to duty.

Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Orthotics from an accredited program.
Masters degree in orthotics from an accredited program. Preferred
Possess and maintain a ABC or BOC certification as a Certified Orthotist.
Minimum three (3) years experience as a Certified Orthotist.
Possess and maintain certification from the American Red Cross (ARC) for Healthcare Providers in Basic Life Support (BLS) OR equivalent from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of orthotic materials, componentry, and fabrication techniques.
Ability to provide age-appropriate care across pediatric to geriatric populations.
Excellent written documentation and communication skills.
Demonstrated expertise in managing a full orthotic caseload.
Ability to independently evaluate, fit, and adjust orthoses across all levels of complexity.
Knowledge of infection control, safety policies, and perioperative procedures.
Active participation in medical readiness and patient care initiatives.
Knowledge of advancements in orthotic materials, components, and technologies.
Ability to provide timely orthotic solutions for complex clinical needs, including management of patients with neurological conditions, trauma, post-operative care, and pediatric or geriatric populations.
Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation (e.g., AHLTA, Genesis).
Familiarity with HCPCS coding for orthotic billing and documentation.
