Position Summary : The Clay Shooting Instructor is responsible for providing instruction to inexperienced shooters and providing a safe and fun environment for the club members and their guests. The goal is to get new shooters introduced safely into the sport of clay shooting while providing a fun environment to learn in. The instructor does not need vast knowledge of competitive clay shooting to be successful in this position. This is a non-exempt (hourly), on-call position with no core working hours. Clay Shooting Instructors are called on an as-needed basis according to the operational needs of the Club, typically for periods of 1 to 4 hours of instruction. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on lesson bookings, events, and member demand.

Essential Duties :

• Demonstrates safe handling techniques of shotguns with members and their guests

• Provides safety instructions and coaches members on safe and effective shooting practices

• Operates Polaris UTV during instruction

• Operates clay course handsets for lessons and trapping only events

• Ensures all members and their guests always maintain safety gear

• Provides proper shotgun gauge and size to fit the size of the member or guest that is being taught

• Communicates to the Member Engagement Manager when there are member issues or concerns

• Follows all Club safety policies and procedures, and promptly reports any injury, unsafe condition, or incident to management

• Other duties as may be assigned Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Attributes :

• Excellent problem-solving skills Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree, High School Diploma, or GED □ Experience operating/maintaining safety on a gun range

• Experience as a shotgun instructor and/or shooter

• Proficient safe handling skills with shotguns Preferred Certifications Certifications relating to clay shooting are a plus, such as:

• NSCA or NSSA Certified Instructor (Level I or higher)

• NRA Certified Shotgun Instructor

• USA Shooting coaching certification or similar

• Current First Aid/CPR certification Computer Skills Ability to use a smart phone and tablet to access email, time clock application, and WBR app.

• Compensation Hourly Rate: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour. Placement within the range is based on experience, qualifications, and certifications. This range is provided in accordance with California pay transparency requirements (Labor Code § 432.3).

• Commission: Eligible to earn commission on lessons and instruction in addition to hourly wages. Commission terms are set forth in a separate written commission agreement, provided to and signed by the employee, as required by Labor Code § 2751.

• Overtime: Daily and weekly overtime is paid in accordance with California law. Commission earnings are included in the regular rate of pay when calculating overtime. Scheduling & On-Call Expectations

• Instructors are called on an as-needed basis according to the operational needs of the Club. No minimum number of hours is guaranteed.

• Instructors may accept or decline on-call requests and are not required to remain on Club premises or otherwise restrict personal activities while awaiting an assignment.

• When an instructor reports to work as scheduled and is furnished less than half of the scheduled shift, reporting time pay will be provided as required by the applicable California Industrial Welfare Commission (IWC) Wage Order.

• Rest periods and meal periods are provided in accordance with California law, including a paid 10-minute rest period for every four hours worked or major fraction thereof.

• All time worked, including safety briefings, equipment setup and cleanup, and required training, must be recorded through the time clock application and will be paid. Off-the-clock work is not permitted.

Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, sun, wind, and dust, and on uneven terrain. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to very loud; hearing and eye protection are required and provided by the Club. Employees are expected to follow the Club’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Heat Illness Prevention procedures, and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan in accordance with Cal/OSHA requirements.
